In terms of losses, livestock slaughtering enterprises lost 1.347 billion yuan, up 70 percent from the same period last year; poultry slaughtering enterprises lost 1.105 billion yuan, down 10 percent from the same period last year; and meat products and by-product processing enterprises lost 900 million yuan, up 24.8 percent from the same period last year.

Li Shuilong, vice president of the World Meat Organization and executive president of the China Meat Association, believes that the decline in profits and loss-making enterprises in the slaughtering industry in 2014 is mainly due to low capacity utilization.
