On March 29, the launching meeting of the innovative Action on Comprehensive Prevention and Control of heavy Metal pollution of Rice in Southern China was held in Hunan, led by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, and the strongest team of experts in the country gathered together for the "pulse consultation" of heavy metal pollution. respond to social concerns with positive actions and provide technical support for ensuring the quality and safety of food production and agricultural products.

According to Liu Zhongqi, head of the project and researcher of the Environmental Protection Scientific Research and Monitoring Institute of the Ministry of Agriculture, heavy metal pollution in China, especially rice cadmium pollution in southern China, is caused by long-term water pollution, air pollution, solid waste pollution, and so on. compared with air pollution and water pollution, it is difficult to find, strong concealment, long retention time, cumulative, and difficult to control. At present, the research on the prevention and control technology of heavy metal pollution mainly stays in the single technology, most of which are still in the research and experimental stage, lack of technical integration, low economy, weak operability, limited scope of application, and low actual remediation efficiency. especially in the remediation of heavy metal pollution, mature comprehensive technical measures suitable for China's national conditions, replicable and easy to popularize, and suitable for large-scale farmland treatment have not been found.

The prevention and control of heavy metal pollution of agricultural products is long-term and arduous. The CPC Central Committee and the State Council attach great importance to this and make a series of arrangements for comprehensive prevention and control. This year's Central Committee document No. 1 clearly stated that it is necessary to do a good job in the protection of heavy metal pollution; recently, the State Council specially approved the General Plan for the treatment of Outstanding problems in the Agricultural Environment (2014-2018) and the National Plan for Sustainable Development of Agriculture (2015-2030). The prevention and control of heavy metal pollution is taken as an important content, and clear requirements, objectives and tasks are put forward.

Therefore, with the support of the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Finance and other ministries, and led by the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences, we have opened up the boundaries of departments, disciplines, and units, and organized cross-disciplinary and cross-disciplinary cooperation to tackle key problems. From the technical level, we should effectively solve the hot spots and focus issues facing the sustainable development of agriculture, such as heavy metal pollution, and provide technical support and services for government departments' decision-making.
