Abandoned beer industrial zone revolutionizes the life function of the city center

We started from the declining old port near the railway station, strolled through this once-abandoned industrial area, and worked hard to transform in recent years into the most energy-efficient residential area, a good place for cultural centers for all ages, and a green space for people to relax and relax.

There is the old factory of AB InBev, a world beer giant, and the historic De Hoorn brewery next door. Mr. Artois has produced Artois beer here since the 18th century, and AB InBev still produces Stella Artois beer today.

The De Hoorn Brewery was listed as a cultural heritage in 1997, and several young Leuven entrepreneurs bought the dilapidated old building. After a series of design, discussion and renovation, it reopened in 2012 into a composite green building for banquets, conferences, restaurants, newly created offices and food retail, full energy conservation, the use of renewable energy and Rain Water, and the effective management of water and waste. Its creative Hub positioning and rebirth of past civilization won the 2016 EU Cultural Heritage Award. If you have the opportunity to visit this representative area of the sustainable plan near the Leuven railway station, you will absolutely admire the vision of this medieval university town to lead the citizens of the world in the 21st century, as well as the courage of grassroots democracy.
