At present, China has formed more than 1000 registered enterprises of microbial fertilizer, with a production capacity of 10 million tons and an output value of nearly 20 billion yuan. In recent years, China's microbial fertilizer production capacity has developed rapidly and steadily at an annual growth rate of more than 10%.

Microbial fertilizers are popular because of their important role in environmental protection and improving the quality of cultivated land. In December 2012, the State Council issued the Biological Industry Development Plan, which plans that by 2015, China's biological industry will form a distinctive industrial development capability, and by 2020, the biological industry will develop into a pillar industry of the national economy.

Microbial pesticides are highly effective and environmentally friendly

On January 7, 2015, the Ministry of Agriculture announced the overall plan of "one control, two reductions and three basics", which plans to increase fertilizer utilization rate to more than 40% and achieve zero growth in chemical pesticide use by 2020.

Microbial pesticides enhance crop stress resistance, improve fertilizer efficiency, are not easy to produce resistance, and are safe to humans, livestock, crops and the natural environment. They are welcomed by users and gradually become one of the development directions of pesticides in the future. It is significant for modern agriculture to develop a series of agricultural products by making Bacillus, fungal DNA virus and so on into biological pesticide preparations.

Microbiology turns waste into treasure

China's annual solid organic waste, including livestock manure, kitchen residues, straw and crop processing waste, is about 10 billion tons, only a small part of which is efficiently utilized as resources. Professor Zhang Jibin of Huazhong Agricultural University, deputy director of the Microbiological Product Quality Supervision, Inspection and Testing Center of the Ministry of Agriculture, said that the resource utilization of solid organic waste in animal protein nutrition, functional organic fertilizer and bioenergy is a major demand of China's national economy, which not only protects the environment, but also turns waste into treasure, which is a good thing to kill two birds with one stone.

Yu Ziniu, deputy director of the Academic Committee of the State Key Laboratory of Agricultural Microbiology, pointed out that the development of agricultural microbiology is oriented to "two increases and three basics", that is, increasing microbial fertilizers, increasing the research and application of microbial pesticides, and finally realizing the goal of basically solving environmental pollution problems, basically solving fertilizer efficiency and efficiency, and basically solving food safety problems. In this process, scientific research institutes and leading enterprises should jointly tackle key problems and cooperate with each other to jointly strengthen, enlarge and optimize China's agricultural microorganism industry and further boost the development of modern agriculture in China.
