Last Updated: 2024/11/05, Many people have carnations, but they don't know how to trim them. In fact, it should be trimmed in different ways according to the time. For example, in its growing period, in order to remove the apical advantage and make it grow more luxuriantly, we can choose to top it; in the bud stage, we can cut off some buds to improve the quality of the flowers; after flowering, we can cut off the pedicels to help it grow better.

1. Topping

The top of most plants has an advantage, and the top buds grow first, which limits the growth of lateral buds, so we choose to go to the top in order to make the plants more luxuriant and increase the number of flowers. The carnation also belongs to this kind of plant, the first topping is to choose when the plant grows 8 to 9 pairs of leaves, this time only need to leave 4 to 6 pairs of leaves; the second topping should be carried out when more than 4 pairs of leaves grow on the side branches of the plant, this time only 3 to 4 pairs of leaves can be left on each side branch. Finally, the whole plant has 12 to 15 lateral branches.

2. Pruning buds during pregnancy

When a plant grows a flower, we only need to keep the front end of each side branch, and the rest can be removed. This can ensure the bright color and large shape of the flowers, improve the quality of flowering and increase the degree of appreciation.

3. Pruning after flowering

The pedicel should be cut off immediately after the plant blossoms for the first time. This helps plants continue to blossom and reduce the loss of nutrients.

If a novice grows flowers, do not love too much and do not have the heart to prune, the growth of the plant itself will be stronger, so even if the pruning is wrong, it can slowly grow back. However, if it is not pruned in time, the plant may be slender, and there will be no dense plant type and normal flowering, resulting in no ornamental effect at all.
