Spring rain in many places and a bumper harvest of winter wheat is in sight.
Recently, spring rain has fallen in many places in northern China, and the growth of domestic winter wheat is gratifying. Rainfall has largely reduced the adverse impact of the early dry weather on the growth of winter wheat, and market participants expect China's wheat to usher in another bumper harvest year.
Since April, overcast and rainy weather has continued to occur in most parts of China, especially in winter wheat producing areas, which has greatly improved the soil moisture in the wheat field and laid the foundation for the smooth heading and flowering of winter wheat, which is beneficial to the increase of per unit yield of winter wheat.
"at present, winter wheat in most areas of Henan Province has entered the late booting stage and early heading stage. In this growth stage, winter wheat needs a lot of water and requires good soil moisture in the wheat field." Liu Xianzhen, a wheat expert at the Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Xinxiang City, Henan Province, told Futures Daily that although the overcast and rainy weather has lowered the temperature in various places, the low temperature weather caused by rainfall is very short, and winter wheat will not suffer frost damage. Sufficient rainfall not only solves the current problem of large water demand for the growth of winter wheat, but also reduces the input of farmers.
The reporter recently conducted an on-the-spot investigation in Henan, Hubei, Hunan and other places and found that, compared with previous years, winter wheat has more tillers, larger populations, and stronger individual seedlings. Due to good water and fertilizer conditions, winter wheat is growing neatly. Among them, the heading of winter wheat in Hubei, Hunan and other southern regions has been basically completed, winter wheat in most parts of Henan is ending the booting stage and entering the heading stage, and the growth of winter wheat has reached the best level in the same period in recent years.
Compared with the growth of winter wheat in Henan and other places, winter wheat in Shandong and Hebei is still in the booting stage, and wheat field moisture is very important for the growth of winter wheat. Xi Jingtao, general manager of Hebei Hengshui Heping State Grain Depot Co., Ltd., said that before there was no rain, the drought of winter wheat in some parts of Hebei was relatively severe, and there were dead seedlings in some wheat fields. The recent continuous rainfall has alleviated the drought in various places, and farmers no longer have to irrigate the wheat fields. more importantly, continuous rainfall has also brought some winter wheat facing dead seedlings back to life.
It is understood that there has been snowfall in some areas of Shandong recently, will this cause frost damage to winter wheat? According to Wang Yingzhong, business director of the first Grain Depot in Jining, Shandong Province, the snowfall did not last long, only Lesser Snow weather occurred in some areas north of Jinan, and because of the high temperature, there was no snow in many places. on the whole, there is no frost injury to winter wheat.
According to the data released by agricultural departments across the country, the planting area of winter wheat in China has increased this year, coupled with the recent continuous overcast and rainy weather, which is more conducive to the increase in winter wheat yield per unit area. The market expects that this year's domestic winter wheat yield and total yield will reach a new high in recent years, and the main focus of the market in the later stage will be the weather conditions during the winter wheat harvest period.
However, in Liu Xianzhen's view, due to the high temperature in winter last year and more precipitation in spring this year, winter wheat is more likely to have major diseases and insect pests at the panicle stage, such as wheat scab, aphids and other major diseases and insect pests. He suggested that wheat farmers should strengthen the prevention and control of winter wheat diseases and insect pests.
