Last Updated: 2024/09/16, The Jiangsu Xuyi Lobster Association, which claims that 90% of the lobsters sold in Shanghai are fake, took two Shanghai catering units to court last year on the grounds of infringing its trademark exclusive right, and one of them was claimed for more than 210000 yuan. The Jiangsu Xuyi Lobster Association, which claims that 90% of the "Xuyi lobsters" sold in Shanghai are fake, took two Shanghai catering units to court last year on the grounds of infringing its trademark exclusive right, and one of them was claimed for more than 210000 yuan. The association's anti-counterfeiting activities in Shanghai have lasted for more than ten years, and it has adopted judicial channels because of its few achievements.

However, the reporter recently visited the market and found that this move did not allow the authentic Xuyi lobster to occupy the market. Instead, the vast majority of wholesalers and restaurants in Shanghai are more in pursuit of lobsters from other producing areas.

Ni Zhijun, director of the aquatic products management department of Tongchuan Road Aquatic Market, said that at present, the average daily circulation of crayfish in the market is about 40,000 kg to 50,000 kg, which is not produced in Xuyi. The main sales force is Lianghu (Hunan, Hubei) shrimp, accounting for 60% of the total market sales, followed by Anhui shrimp, Jiangsu shrimp and Shandong shrimp, sharing the remaining 40% equally. The reporter visited the Shangnong batch Aquatic area and Jiangyang North Road Aquatic Market and found that Xuyi lobster had a similar situation.

In restaurants, this phenomenon is more obvious. "the water quality is good, the bait is good, the crayfish raised are all the same, and there is almost no difference between the ingredients of thirteen fragrances." The owner of a barbecue restaurant on East study Road said that he only picked good shrimp, whether it was Xuyi or not.

Why Xuyi lobster is not as expected? Old du, who has been in the crayfish business for 17 years in Tongchuan Road Aquatic Market, said bluntly that crayfish does not look at "origin", but only depends on the ratio of performance to price-whether the meat quality is good or not and whether the price is low. According to reports, in recent years, Shandong has made efforts in the field of crayfish culture, coupled with price concessions than Xuyi, the market share has been cast off Xuyi lobster "several roads". Although the water quality of shrimp culture in the two lakes is not as good as that in Shandong, the quality is recognized and the price is lower, further squeezing the market space of Xuyi shrimp.

Spent a lot of money and energy to fight counterfeiting, but failed to get the attention of operators and consumers, and even squeezed out of the market by other competitors, some industry insiders pointed out that a large part of the reason is that "Xuyi lobster" chose the wrong protection strategy. In the final analysis, Xuyi lobster lacks a "significant difference" compared with other crayfish. "if you are not afraid of counterfeiting and plagiarism, you must fully highlight the characteristics of geographical indications so that others cannot copy them even if they want to." Lin Haihan, director of the Trademark Office of the Municipal Bureau of Industry and Commerce, said that instead of struggling to fight counterfeiting, it is better to cultivate crayfish with outstanding characteristics, expand the breeding scale, enhance the performance-to-price ratio on the premise of ensuring quality, and at the same time improve the traceability system of supply and marketing information in order to be truly recognized by the market.
