AFCD found African classical swine fever virus from wild boar carcass

Last Updated: 2024/11/06, The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department announced that samples taken from a dead wild boar were found to be infected with African classical swine fever virus. In response to the recent death of a number of wild boars near Wong Yue Tan in Tai Po, AFCD staff took samples of a more complete wild boar body found at the above location and found that the sample was right or wrong.

In response to the recent death of a number of wild boars in the vicinity of Wong Yue Tan in Tai Po, AFCD staff took samples of a more intact wild boar found at the above location for laboratory tests and found that the samples were positive for African classical swine fever virus. The Department will continue to monitor the deaths of wild pigs and carry out wild pig surveillance.

So far, no local pig farms have been found to be affected by the incident.
