The extreme weather is becoming more and more serious, and heavy rain is often encountered during the first rice harvest in June every year, resulting in green and yellow rice ears falling down and sprouting, and farmers grabbing and harvesting green rice grains, resulting in agricultural damage. The government has to allocate funds for the purchase of affected rice crops. Liu Chengwei, head of the Agriculture Department of Mingdao University, based on the 15-year organic rice farming scientific data accumulated by the school's organic farm, called on farmers to transform the organic rice farming mode, which can not only conserve the underground water layer, but also reduce the agricultural loss of lodging and green cutting, and in line with the future trend of the consumer market, but also protect the environment so that the land can operate sustainably.

In view of the recent problems of green harvesting and lodging agricultural damage caused by heavy rain during the recent rice harvest period, Liu Chengwei, director of the Department of Agriculture of Mingdao University, proposed a solution based on scientific data and called on rice farmers who are accustomed to agricultural law to transform organic rice farming.

Liu Chengwei said that extreme weather has become an inevitable major challenge to agricultural production. For example, heavy rain followed by drought this year has caused huge agricultural damage to the production of agricultural products such as rice, vegetables, fruits and flowers. Rice is the best cultivation mode to replenish the underground water layer. Changhua is the largest rice production area in China. Many rice fields have lodging or green cutting damage due to the torrential rain in recent weeks. The organic farm of the school has accumulated 15 years of technical data on the planting and management of organic rice. According to the analysis of scientific data, organic rice uses slowly released organic matter fertilizer, and the effect of nitrogen fertilizer is not as quick as that of conventional farming methods. However, at panicle setting, it can avoid lodging agricultural damage caused by heavy-headed rice panicles due to heavy rain and wind disasters, and select disease-resistant, insect-resistant and lodging-resistant varieties, and make use of organic farming management methods. For the environment can indeed achieve the effect of protection, and environmental sustainability is the cornerstone of the sustainable development of agriculture.

The long-term use of chemical fertilizers and chemical pesticides in Taiwan's paddy fields has led to the deterioration of farmland soil salinization, pollution of underground water sources and the environment, and affected the natural ecology, and the application and residues of pesticides will also cause damage to the health of farmers and consumers. therefore, the Council of Agriculture has been promoting a friendly environmental agriculture policy since 105, encouraging farmers to switch to organic farming without spraying chemical pesticides, chemical fertilizers and genetically modified crops.

Liu Chengwei said that the government has provided ecological conservation incentives and organic agricultural production subsidies for transformed organic farming, with annual subsidies of 60,000 yuan per hectare for rice and vegetables and 80,000 yuan per hectare for other crops. The Council of Agriculture also subsidizes part of the cost of purchasing agricultural machinery. The new agricultural machinery is designed with the concept of environment-friendly. For example, the plough and rake tractor currently used in school organic farms is powered by 155 horsepower. Compared with the traditional rotary plough, this new type of plough and rake saves fuel costs and consumables, is less harmful, is more friendly to soil and environmental ecology, and has the function of deep ploughing. It can improve the water and air permeability of soil under heavy pressure and continuous cropping, and increase the conservation efficiency of groundwater.

More and more attention has been paid to organic rice. Farmers can convert it into an environment-friendly planting model based on government subsidies.

Liu Chengwei said that with the increase in income driven by economic development, people's eating habits have changed to pursue fine food, and the consumption of rice is decreasing day by day, but they pay more and more attention to the quality of rice and the health and safety of rice food. organic rice, which is based on safety and health and free of pesticides, is more and more favored by consumers and is bound to become the mainstream of rice consumption market. Farmers can rely on government subsidies for organic farming. Gradually change from the habitual mode to the cultivation mode that does not destroy the ecology and pollute the environment, abide by the principle of recycling and sustainable utilization of natural resources, and use environment-friendly organic farming to maintain the living environment.

Student Zeng Yuyou said that the rice variety selected by the school's organic farm is Tainan 11, which is of good quality and good flavor, and is suitable for lunch and sushi rice. Tainan 11 has the advantages of high yield, resistance to diseases and insect pests, lodging resistance and low threshing rate. It is not only the largest variety planted in Taiwan, but also the light of Taiwan exported to Japan. The students of the agricultural public-funded class in the school have also formed a youth farming group to use the school's large agricultural machinery, such as combine harvester and traction machine, to assist neighboring farmers with farming and harvest free of charge, so as to make a contribution to local agriculture. I also hope that all walks of life can support environment-friendly organic farming of agricultural products.
