A total of 37 tea farmers from Xinyi Township, civilian Township, Zhushan Town Tea area and various townships and cities in the county signed up to participate. the highest age of the contestants was 78 years old, and the youngest was only 24 years old. from picking and withering to kneading and baking, they always worked to improve the real tea-making skills of tea farmers.
Liu Qixing, chairman of the Peasants' Association, said that the tea production area and output of Nantou County ranked first in the country. In the past, it was mainly exported. In recent years, large factories have gradually shrunk, while small processing plants that produce and sell their own products have sprung up everywhere. And with the prevalence of international black tea in recent years, Yuchi Township is the hometown of black tea and even originated from big-leaf black tea. But in the past, the tea was brought back and withered before it was handed over to the contestants to make it. In order to improve the knowledge and skills of black tea production, a special tea-making competition was held.
The Yuchi Rural Farmers' Association pointed out that what is more special about this year's competition is that the contestants are required to go to the tea garden to pick up the green tea and wither themselves. the main thing is that the contestants are required to choose the good green tea and knead and bake the withered tea with their own hands after withering the tea. The contestants consistently produce good black tea, and the competitors start with the tea, then wither for more than 22 hours, then knead and ferment it, and then make it into tea for evaluation.
Huang Zhengzong, director of the fish pond division, said that the big-leaf black tea-making competition can deepen tea farmers' understanding of tea-making technology, improve the standard of the whole black tea, and contribute to the technological upgrading of the tea industry and the development of tourism. The farmers' association said that after two days of tea-making process, tea conversion experts will be invited to do the final evaluation and identification work to select the first prize this time, and the winners will be awarded in the black tea season on November 7.
