Present situation of Walnut cultivation in China

The cultivation area of    walnut expands rapidly and its yield increases greatly.

   China is the largest walnut producer and an important exporter in the world. The main producing provinces are Yunnan, Sichuan, Shanxi, Gansu, Xinjiang and Shaanxi. At present, the cutting area of walnut in China has increased greatly from about 667000 tons in 2000, and the annual output has increased from 340200 tons in 2002 to 436900 tons in 2004.

The number of famous and high-quality varieties of    has increased, and remarkable results have been achieved in regionalization and intensive cultivation.

   at present, many new walnut varieties have been successfully cultivated in China, such as Luguang, Jinlong 1, Zhonglin 1, Liaohe 1 and so on. New tree species and varieties such as black walnut and American Changshan walnut were introduced from abroad, which further enriched walnut resources and played a positive role in variety renewal.

The yield of many intensive high-yield gardens is more than 10 times higher than that of conventional gardens, which shows that there is great potential for walnut production in China. In recent years, large-scale regional production has appeared in China with provinces and counties as units. in 1999, 88 counties (cities and districts) were named as "townships of famous, special and excellent economic forests in China" by the State Forestry Administration. On September 12, 2001, the State Forestry Administration decided to name 132 counties (cities and districts), including Huairou County, Beijing, as the second batch of "townships of famous, special and excellent economic forests in China".
