There are seven main reproductive performance indexes of    pigs:

   (1) litter size: total litter size and live litter size: total litter size refers to the total number of piglets in the same litter within 24 hours of birth, including stillborn, mummified and deformed pigs, and live litter size refers to the number of live piglets born within 24 hours of birth, including weak piglets. Litter size is a low heritability trait, and it is also a compound trait, which is composed of ovulation number, fertilization rate and embryo survival rate.

   (2) birth weight and litter weight refer to the individual weight of piglets within 12 hours after birth, and litter weight refers to the sum of birth weight of piglets in the same litter (live piglets). The birth weight of piglets is a very important index in production. The size of birth weight is related to its breed. Generally speaking, the birth weight of local pig breeds in China is generally smaller than that of piglets imported from abroad.

   (3) Lactation ability is generally expressed by litter weight of piglets at 21 days old (including foster piglets). Because the weight gain of piglets before 21 days old mainly depends on breast milk. Therefore, lactation ability is a very important production performance index.

   (4) feeding rate refers to the ability of sows to feed their piglets, also known as the breeding rate. The calculation formula is as follows:

   (5) weaning weight includes weaning weight and litter weight. The former refers to the individual weight of piglets when they are weaned, while the latter refers to the total weight of the whole litter of piglets (including foster piglets) at weaning. Weaning is generally based on the standard of 28 days old, and the formula is as follows:

28-day-old body weight = actual body weight of a certain age x correction coefficient of that age (r)

(VI) the number of days between the first and last litter days of a sow.

   (7) the number of days at the first birth of sows.
