Nutritional characteristics of Green Feed for Pigs

  Green and succulent feed refers to vegetables, grass, leaves with a natural moisture content of more than 60% of non-starch roots, tubers, fruits and so on. In addition to other nutrients, this type of feed is mainly supplied with various vitamin nutrients. Farmers and small-scale pig farms can feed without multivitamins.

  (1) There are many kinds of leafy vegetables that can be used as pig feed. The leafy vegetables which are widely distributed and cultivated mainly include cabbage, Ixeris sonchifolia, root vegetables, water vegetables, etc. The crude protein content in dry matter is as high as 15.8%~ 20. 3%, starch and sugar content of 41.8%~ 51.8%, this kind of vegetables to raw feed, avoid cooked feed, cooked feed easy to cause nitrite poisoning.

  (2) Grass is divided into two categories: cultivated and wild.

  1. Cultivated grass: There are mainly leguminous plants, such as alfalfa, sweet clover, Chinese milk vetch and vetch, etc., whose protein content in dry matter is 14. 9%~ 28.4%, nitrogen-free extract is 37.3%~ 45.1%. Other nutrients are also abundant.

  2. Wild grasses: There are more than 100 kinds of grasses that can be eaten by pigs, such as wild amaranth, cocklebur, dandelion, bitter cabbage, purslane, Malan, wild pea, shepherd's purse, plantain, etc. Potherbs have less water content than cultivated plants, less crude protein in dry matter, more crude fiber and nitrogen-free extract, and some grass dry matter has similar nutritional components to alfalfa.

  (3) Aquatic plants Plants in rivers, lakes and ponds belong to aquatic plants, such as water lily, water hyacinth and duckweed. Its moisture content is extremely high, up to 90%; dry matter is only 10%; but the crude protein content can reach 15%~ 20%.

  (4) The water content of roots, tubers and melons is as high as 70%~ 90%, the starch and sugar content in dry matter is 60%~ 85%, the crude fiber content is low, and the crude protein accounts for 10%~ 12% of dry matter. This kind of feed has carrot, beet, sweet potato, potato, Jerusalem artichoke, turnip, radish, pumpkin and so on.
