Cumin is a natural herb whose fruit is an excellent natural spice and can be used to cook delicious food, such as the familiar cumin beef. But in fact, cumin has high medicinal value and high planting efficiency. Cumin is mainly planted in Turpan in Xinjiang and Yumen in Gansu. So how to choose cumin seeds? What are the methods of raising seedlings? Let's get to know it.

How to select cumin seeds?

The selection of improved varieties is the key to the success of cumin planting. It is generally appropriate to select varieties with fast growth, cold tolerance, disease resistance and high yield, such as Inner Mongolia varieties, territorial varieties (flat grains) and so on. After selecting the seed, it is necessary to dry the seed (15 days before sowing). The seed drying is beneficial to improve the activity of the seed, to produce the whole seedling and to raise the strong seedling.

What are the methods of raising seedlings?

1. Land selection and preparation

Cumin is very strict to the growth environment and conditions, so it is suitable to plant in wet and cool sandy loam with good ventilation, rich and loose soil and low saline-alkali soil. Soil preparation should be carried out together with domestic fertilizer, and the amount of basic fertilizer per mu is about 7,000 jin, and it should be carried out with phosphorus and potassium fertilizer. Finally, the clods will be broken, leveling the soil surface can be sown.

2. Seed treatment

Cumin seeds are double hanging fruits, which contain two seeds. The seeds should be rubbed apart before sowing. Cumin generally does not need to sprout, sowing late in order to emerge quickly, can be carried out to sprout. First soak the seeds in 20 ℃ or so for 24 hours, then wrap the seeds in a wet cloth and put them in an environment of about 22 ℃ to accelerate germination.

3. Sowing seeds at the right time

It is more appropriate to sow seeds during the period from the end of March to the beginning of April each year, and sowing can be done by sowing and sowing. Sowing is to spread the seeds evenly in the soil, and then cover with a layer of fine soil to cover the seeds; if it is a strip sowing, then the distance between each row is about 25 cm, sowing the seeds evenly in the strips, covering the soil to cover the seeds.

4. Seedling management

① check seedling replanting: when cumin shows the line, check the seedlings in time, and replant the missing seedlings and broken ridges in time. The replanted seeds should be soaked and replanted when the seeds absorb water and expand, so as to facilitate the emergence of seedlings as soon as possible.

② loosening soil and weeding: after checking seedlings and replanting, cumin is artificially loosened and weeded in time to reduce the harm of weeds in seedling stage. The top soil strength of cumin seedlings is weak, so it is necessary to break the hardening before and after emergence and help the seedlings to be unearthed (shallow rake should be suppressed before seedling emergence) in order to preserve soil moisture and grow early.

③ top dressing: after cumin emergence, the height of the seedling is about 7 cm, usually over 22 ℃ in the morning, and the tuyere is closed below 20 ℃ in the afternoon. When the height is about 20 cm, the amount of water is moderate when watering once. Combined with watering, urea 10kg is applied per mu or so, and phosphorus, potassium and boron fertilizer are needed after flowering.

In the process of planting cumin, it is best to use interplanting, which can not only increase the yield of cumin, but also improve the utilization rate of land resources. It can be harvested when the plant has yellow in the distance and flowers in the near distance when the seedling height 25cm is about.
