What are the types of cultivation substrates?
The cultivation substrate of plants is divided into organic substrate and inorganic substrate. It needs to be prepared and produced according to a certain formula process first. It can provide artificial soil with excellent water, fertilizer, air and heat conditions for seed germination and plant growth. Different types of substrates are suitable for different types of plant growth. What are the types of cultivation substrates? Let's take a look together!
1. Perlite
Perlite is formed by siliceous volcanoes burning and expanding at 1200℃. White. Granular, can hold 3 to 4 times its own weight of water, easy drainage and ventilation, chemical stability. Containing silicon, aluminum, iron, calcium, manganese, potassium and other oxides. Fragile, generally mixed with peat and other organic matter use.
2. Rock wool
Rock wool is white or light green. Strong water absorption, rock wool body light, easy to transport; stable physical and chemical properties; high temperature synthesis without bacteria; strong water absorption, sufficient water supply; small water tension, easy to rot roots.
3. Volcanic rocks
Volcanic lava solidified into, generally grayish brown, reddish brown, porous honeycomb-like blocks, like slag, broken after use. Volcanic rocks are not easy to break and have good structure, but their water holding capacity is poor. Often mixed with sand.
4, sand
The sand capacity is large, and it is inconvenient to transport and replace the matrix; the water holding capacity is poor, which is convenient for drainage and ventilation, but it is not conducive to water and fertilizer conservation, and the buffer capacity is poor. The nutrient solution formula, irrigation volume and irrigation times are strictly required, and the management is troublesome. The irrigation should be small and repeated. The matrix does not affect the concentration balance of nutrient solution and is easy to disinfect.
5, peat
Also called peat, it is the decomposed residue of peat moss, ash moss, Carex and other aquatic plants. Peat has fine texture, strong water holding capacity, good ventilation, rich organic matter and strong buffer capacity. Peat is often mixed with other substrates.
6, coconut bran
Coconut shell fiber powder is a very popular organic matrix in the world at present. Coconut chaff has a strong ability to ventilate and retain water. Even when dry, the soft fiber will not damage the root system. Coconut chaff also contains some hormones that promote root growth and inhibit root diseases. When mixed with peat, it swells after absorbing water.
7. Mushroom residue
Edible mushroom culture medium with cottonseed hull as main component is eliminated after mushroom planting and can be used as soilless culture medium. Disinfect before use. If you are in a hurry to use, you can also use tools to mechanically crush and then sift.
At this point, the introduction to the types of cultivation substrates is here. If you want to grow different agricultural products, you can choose the appropriate cultivation substrate. It is generally recommended to use organic and inorganic combinations.
