Dendrobium, one of the orchids, can be used as medicine to dispel deficiency heat, replenish essence and strengthen yin. With the rise of flower industry, Dendrobium has also become an ornamental plant. Dendrobium is generally cultivated in pots. So, where does Dendrobium grow? How to maintain it?

Where does Dendrobium grow?

Dendrobium often grows on tree trunks or rocks at 480-1700 meters above sea level. Like warmth. Moist and semi-overcast environment, not resistant to cold. The suitable temperature for growth is 18: 30 ℃, the suitable growth period is 16: 21 ℃, the dormant period is 16: 18 ℃, the night temperature is 10: 13 ℃, and the temperature difference is 10: 15 ℃. The daytime temperature exceeding 30 ℃ had little effect on the growth of Dendrobium, and the winter temperature was not lower than 10 ℃. Seedlings are susceptible to freezing below 10 ℃.

Dendrobium is produced in Zhejiang (Yandang Mountain) Taiwan, Anhui, southern Hubei (Yichang), Hong Kong, Hainan (Baisha), western to northeastern Guangxi (Baise, Pingnan, Xing'an, Jinxiu, Jingxi), southern Sichuan (Changning, Emeishan, Leshan), southwest to north Guizhou (Chishui, Xishui, Luodian, Xingyi, Sandu), southeastern to northwestern Yunnan (Fumin, Shiping, Cangyuan, Mengla, Menghai, Simao, Sandu). Nujiang River Valley, Gongshan area), southeast of Xizang (Motuo).

Second, how to maintain Dendrobium?

Potted Dendrobium needs light, well-drained and breathable soil such as peat moss, fern root, bark and charcoal. At the same time, there are many tiles or broken bricks at the bottom of the basin to facilitate the development of root system.

1. The requirements of Dendrobium for light:

The cultivation site must be well lit and ventilated. It is more beneficial to the growth and flowering of Dendrobium.

2. Moisture requirements of Dendrobium:

During the growing period of spring and summer, it should be fully watered to speed up the growth of pseudocorm. Gradually reduce watering after September, so that the pseudo-corm tends to mature, which can promote flowering. Dendrobium has higher requirements for air humidity, keeping moist in the basin is the best condition, and water can not be accumulated in the basin during the vigorous growth period, otherwise it is perishable. Can often spray water to the surrounding ground to improve air humidity.

3. Dendrobium's requirements for fertilizer:

Fertilization was applied once every ten days during the growing period, but decreased in autumn. Do not apply concentrated fertilizer to Dendrobium, but adjust the ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium according to the growth period, spray or irrigate the root, generally once a week to the pseudobulm mature period and winter dormancy period, then stop fertilization completely.

4. The time of changing the basin of Dendrobium:

The plants of Dendrobium which have been cultivated for more than 2 or 3 years are crowded, the roots are full, and the potted materials have rotted, so they should be replaced in time. No matter evergreen or deciduous Dendrobium, change the pot after flowering. When changing the basin, you should hurt the roots less, otherwise the leaves will yellowed and fall off in case of low temperature.
