Recently, the cold air has swept across the country with a sudden drop in temperature, resulting in a big temperature difference between morning and evening. Many professional pig farmers report that their pigs are always piling up recently, diarrhea occurs frequently, and they eat more but do not gain weight. Here, I would like to remind the vast number of pig farmers that if these conditions occur in your pig herd, it is very likely that they have caught a cold.

Phenomenon 1: pigs gather together and squeeze each other

It is not cold for people to enter, but in the huge pigsty, pigs are huddled into a corner shivering and huddled together to find warmth. This phenomenon is obvious and easy to judge, but by the time it is discovered, it is already a bit "late" because pigs have been stressed in the cold for a long time. Especially when piglets are squeezed together, they are not active in feeding, their disease resistance is reduced, and they are easy to get sick or die.

Measures: inspection of pig pens

Then we have to check our pigsty carefully, especially at night, we must remember to close some missing places, and then see if the pigsty needs to be repaired and some broken places should be repaired to prevent piglets from catching cold at night.

Phenomenon 2: pig hair is "fried".

People's skin is easy to get goose bumps when it is cold in winter. Although pigs cannot get goose bumps, the blood vessels of the skin will also contract, the hair will stand, will not be very smooth, some "prick people", and the cold will accelerate the growth rate of the hair. Careful breeders will observe this phenomenon and keep warm as soon as possible to prevent cold stress from further aggravating.

Measures: Rice seedling bed

When we find that our piglets catch cold at night, we can try to put some rice seedlings dried after we have harvested rice on the belly of our piglets and put them in the pigsty where the piglets often sleep to keep them warm.

Phenomenon 3: eat more and drink less

Most people know that if you eat less in winter, you will feel very cold, so pigs are no exception. Cold makes pigs instinctively eat more food and drink less water to make up for the weight deficit caused by low temperature caused by fat and intramuscular metabolic heat production in pigs. But this is not a good thing, if it is found that pigs only eat almost no weight gain, then it may be a cold.

Phenomenon 4: other unconventional behaviors of pigs

Pigs pay attention to cleanliness when they are healthy and will be excreted in a fixed area. if the pigsty in the big pen is particularly dirty, it may be that the temperature difference is too large and the living habits of pigs are disrupted. If one or two pigs are "maverick", unsociable, and lethargic, feverish, lethargic, it may also be caused by cold stress.

Measures: with the development of the times, many scientific products are also used in our agriculture, and the night lighting and heating lamp is one of them. When the autumn and winter season comes, we can use it in order to prevent the belly of the pig from getting cold.

Measures: keep the pig house dry and clean

We then keep the pigsty dry and clean in the pigsty, and manage the feeding place and sleeping place separately each time, so that we can effectively keep the pigsty clean and dry. This can also prevent our piglets from getting cold at night.

Phenomenon 5: an increase in porcine diarrhoea

Every winter is the period of high incidence of porcine diarrhoeal disease, the ground is humid, the temperature drops suddenly, piglets are more afraid of cold and humidity than big pigs, and are more prone to cold stress and diarrhea, especially piglets born 3-7 days old. If diarrhea occurs, consider whether the piglets catch cold.

Measures: keep the enclosure clean, strengthen vaccination according to the local epidemic situation, do a good job of vaccination.

Phenomenon 6: frequent occurrence of pig colds

People are easy to catch cold, and so are pigs. Cold season, cold epidemic, rapid onset, but also quick recovery, widespread epidemic but low mortality. Pigs are in the cold for a long time. If you find pigs with cough, dyspnea, fever, mental malaise and so on, you should pay attention to whether they catch a cold or not.
