A cow refers to a female cow that can produce milk and can have offspring. While cows have to give birth to estrus and fertilisation, what are the characteristics of estrus? What should you pay attention to if the estrus is abnormal? The vast number of farmers should take a closer look!

What are the typical characteristics of cow estrus:

1. Early estrus. The cow is at the beginning of estrus, the symptoms are singing, leaving the group, walking along the playground, trying to get close to other cattle; climbing over other cattle; slightly swollen vulva, moist mucous membrane, flushing; sniffing the hindquarters of other cows, unwilling to accept other cows to climb across; reduced milk production.

2. the peak period of estrus (lasts about 18 hours). It is characterized by standing acceptance of other cattle climbing over other cattle, frequent calls, agitation, loss of appetite or refusal to eat, and declining milk production.

3. The estrus is coming to an end. Cows refuse to accept other cows to climb and smell other cows; try to climb over other cows; eat normally and milk production picks up; mucus may be excreted from the vulva.

The change of symptoms in the whole estrus is a gradual process, and the duration of estrus has individual differences. The suitable time for mating should be shortly after the cow turns to the end of estrus. According to experience, estrus in the morning is usually followed by mating in the afternoon, or estrus in the afternoon and mating in the morning. When the weather is hot in summer, the time of mating should be advanced appropriately, and slightly postponed in winter. The oestrus duration of old weak cows is shorter, ovulation is early and should be early mating, while that of young cows is longer estrus duration, late ovulation and late mating. Usually master the appropriate mating, insemination can be once, as long as through rectal examination to touch the follicles to diagnose delayed ovulation, the need for a second insemination.

What problems should be paid attention to when the cow is in abnormal estrus:

Cows are not in estrus when they should be in estrus, and delayed breeding will cause economic losses to breeders. There are a variety of reasons for non-estrus in cows, including disease factors, nutritional factors, environmental factors and so on. Breeders should carefully check the condition of cows and pay special attention to several problems:

1. Poor feeding and management, cows are too thin or too fat.

2. Diseases such as placenta retention, uterine inflammation, vaginitis and ovarian cyst have occurred.

3. Poor feed quality, too high or too low crude protein, lack of some trace elements (selenium, zinc, etc.) or vitamin A, E, etc.

4. Poor management, damp and cold barn, lack of drinking water and lack of exercise.

5. Incorrect methods of midwifery, insemination, non-disinfection when checking vagina, improper operation will damage vaginal and uterine mucosa. Cause bacteria to take the opportunity to enter or cause traumatic genital diseases.
