Brocade turtles are small freshwater turtles with bright patterns and are loved by people. There are eastern, western, central, southern brocade turtles and other species. So what's the difference between it and a Brazilian tortoise? Is it easy to raise? Which is the best? What are the feeding methods? Learned from the Zhejiang brocade turtle breeding base, the beautiful golden tortoise, also known as the red-eared tortoise, originated in South America, and was recently introduced into Longtou Pavilion Animal Farm, Yuanhua Town, Haining City, Zhejiang Province. Because of its very bright color, it has become the best one among the ornamental turtles. Beautiful brocade turtles can also be inoculated with basal branch algae to cultivate green-haired turtles. The green-haired turtle bred by using it as the base turtle not only grows and develops fast, but also has good quality. Very popular with people, but also relatively easy to raise.

What's the difference between golden tortoise and Brazilian tortoise?

Brocade turtles are a subspecies of Brazil, and the ancestors of Brazilian turtles sold today are from the United States (not Brazil). The golden tortoise is also American, just different regions, but some of the genes are the same.

Which is the best-looking golden turtle?

Personal preferences are different, so it's hard to say which is the best-looking. The following is a brief introduction to the eastern, western, central and southern brocade turtles.

1. Eastern brocade turtles

Although many adults are quite small, they can grow up to 16-17cm. The biggest difference between the eastern golden tortoise is that it is the only one of all the turtles found in North America with scuttle plates arranged in rows. Unlike most turtles whose shield plates are staggered, the vertebral shield in front of it is actually lined up with the rib shield. The characteristics of this species make it the easiest to identify among the existing turtles. The eastern golden turtle has clear yellow belly armour, yellow stripes on the head (these stripes may appear as large spots above the head), and bright red stripes on other parts of the body.

2. The central golden tortoise

Of all the subspecies of the golden tortoise, it is the most difficult to describe because it has the characteristics of all other subspecies. The scuttle plate is a typical staggered arrangement like ordinary turtles. The markings on the head, neck and body are similar to those of the eastern subspecies, but there are no large dots above the head. The maximum size of this subspecies is also about 17cm. The yellow ventral nail of this subspecies has a faint dark black stripe in the center, which is similar to the dark pattern on the western subspecies. This stripe does not extend to the edge of the ventral nail.

3. Western brocade turtles

Western brocade turtles can grow to 20cm, is the largest brocade turtle. The markings on the head and body are yellow, and the belly nail is pink with a large dark black pattern that extends to the edge of the belly nail. Sometimes faint yellowish lines can be seen on the back armor. Like other subspecies except the eastern golden turtle, the scutellum of the dorsal armor is staggered. Wild golden turtles like ponds, and golden turtles like to bask in their backs.

4. Southern brocade turtle

The southern golden turtle has a distinctive red stripe along the center of its back armor. Although this subspecies has the same all-yellow belly armour and body color as the eastern golden turtle, it does not have a shield arranged in a row. It is smaller than other subspecies and only grows to about 15cm.

What are the breeding methods of golden turtles?

1. Because of their petite size and adaptability to artificial captivity, golden turtles are often kept as pets. They have interesting personalities and make funny moves from time to time. Brocade turtles can be kept in a 4-foot aquarium and are equipped with ultraviolet lamps, incandescent lamps, heaters, filters, and rock platforms and hideouts covered with pebbles.

2. Generally speaking, the vitality of turtles is extremely strong. As long as they are observed diligently, managed strictly, kept fine and kept clean in the breeding pond, they generally will not get sick all their lives. In order to make it grow faster and healthier, especially in the young turtle stage, oxytetracycline and dysentery can be fed once or twice a month, 1 tablet for every 5 pairs of turtles, dissolved in water. Oxytetracycline and dysentery are cross-used. 0.01% potassium permanganate can also be used for disinfection, and the effect of disease prevention is excellent.
