Tortoise, also known as grass turtle, is a common reptile in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River in China. It is widely cultivated because it is edible and can also be used as medicine. At present, artificial breeding is also being carried out in most areas. What did the little turtle eat to grow up? Rice or meat? How do you raise it?

First, what to eat?

1. Food for wild turtles to eat:

Turtles eat a wide range of food, edible rice, wheat, shrimp, small fish, insects, snails, peas and so on, of which the favorite food is corn, rice, small fish, snails.

2. Food that pet turtles can eat:

As a pet turtle, you can feed rice, turtle food, beef, Loach and so on. Turtles eat a wide range of food, such as rice, wheat, peas, small fish, shrimp, insects, snails and so on. The favorite foods are small fish, snails, corn and rice.

3. Food that turtles can eat in captivity:

In artificial feeding, in order to meet the various nutrients needed for the growth of turtles and avoid growth retardation and anorexia due to a single feed, a variety of feeds should be adopted. such as fish and shrimp, snails, mussels in animal feed and rice, wheat and corn in plant feed. In order for turtles to fully digest these feeds, peas and corn must be crushed and soaked in water for about 2 hours to soften the food. at the same time, other large pieces of food must also be chopped before feeding. It is worth noting that during the period of feeding young turtles, different baits should be allocated according to the growth rate to promote their rapid growth.

4. Feeding skills

(1) very small turtles need to be fed with special feed during feeding, and the larger ones can be fed with shrimp and lean meat. One or two at a time is fine. Turtles generally begin to eat in mid-April and stop eating in early October, so in order to control the amount of food, turtles are generally fed once a day and once every two days after one year old. at the same time, when feeding, it must be carried out in the water to observe the growth and exercise status of the turtles so that they can adjust their food.

(2) although the turtle has a wide diet, the turtle will suffer from malnutrition if it is fed with non-nutritious food, so when feeding, it is necessary to choose high-quality and nutritious feed, among which the turtle needs a lot of calcium and should be fed with food containing a lot of calcium. In addition, carp feed and dog food are also very appropriate food. Occasionally feed some boneless fish, snake meat, mice and other fresh food, will win the love of turtles.

5. Points for attention:

(1) location. When breeding turtles, a fixed feeding point can be set along the bank of the pool, and the feeding table should be close to the water surface to facilitate the turtle to swallow water and bite. At the same time, it can make the turtle develop good habits every time, and it is easy to observe the turtle's activities and check its food intake.

(2) quality determination. The feed should be kept fresh. After feeding, the leftover food should be removed in time to prevent the feed from rotting and smelling, affecting the turtle's appetite and polluting the water quality.

(3) quantitative. Although turtles can eat, they are also seasonal. the amount of feed generally depends on the water quality, air temperature, water quality, activities and the turtle's appetite, depending on the appetite and activities, and it is appropriate to have a little surplus during the meal. Usually take food every 1-2 days.

6. What if you don't eat?

(1) the turtle eats in the water. If there is no water, it will not eat. If the water level is the lowest, it will miss it. If there is no water or the water level is too low, it will be sleepy. By not exercising, it will reduce consumption until it starves to death.

(2) in spring and autumn, turtles are not very active in the morning and evening and only feed around noon, so they have to be fed at this point. In summer, turtles are usually inactive at noon and are usually fed in the afternoon. If you grasp the timing and find out the nature of your turtle, you can make it eat happily.

(3) to ensure the quality, the food must be rich, do what it likes, and the food must be fresh. After the turtle has finished eating, change the water and clean up the pond. This is not only hygienic, but also does not affect its mood of eating.

(4) Prevention, regularly disinfect the living environment of turtles and feed some drugs to prevent diseases and enhance appetite to prevent the breeding of diseases. In addition, the food fed should be kept clean and hygienic, and it is best to eat after screening.

7. Reasons for not eating:

(1) the temperature is not high enough that the tortoise will only eat when it is about 20 ℃ above zero, but it will occasionally have the desire to ask for food when it is about 17 ℃. Don't feed it, otherwise it will cause indigestion.

(2) the tortoise may have gastroenteritis and need medication. If the tortoise does not eat all the time, it needs to be soaked in glucose and some vitamins to replenish its energy and cooperate with drug treatment.

(3) the water is not deep enough. In addition to tortoises, whether they are water turtles or half-water turtles, turtles like to be in deep water. When the water is too shallow, turtles would rather starve to death than eat.

(4) the change of environment. The new unfamiliar environment will cause the turtle to eat abnormally and it will take a while to get used to it.

2. Culture skills:

1. Activity venue

Turtles are semi-aquatic and semi-terrestrial animals, which can live in water or on land, but now most people like to put them in water, so that they can not move freely on land, so in order to make the turtles grow well, a sun platform can be built in the turtle pond, such as planks or slates, so that the turtles can move and promote digestion.

2. Lighting

Turtles need regular light, which makes it troublesome to raise turtles, especially small turtles. If there is no light, the little turtles will suffer from various diseases. Light can promote the turtle's absorption of calcium. If there is no light, the turtle will be deficient in calcium. For an animal covered with bones, calcium deficiency is a big deal.

3. Disease prevention

The best way to prevent turtles from getting sick is to get plenty of light. In addition, regular change of water can effectively prevent the growth of germs. There are special disinfectants on the market that disinfect fish tanks. You can give them to turtles as long as they are sprayed into the water.

4. How much water is it

If the tortoise has been in deep water, the tortoise will easily become lethargic and do not move a step every day. Therefore, the amount of water should generally ensure that the tortoise can drown its shell in deep water and expose its head in shallow water to facilitate movement.
