Hamster is a cute little pet that many people like to keep. It is a mouse-shaped rodent with many varieties, such as golden bear, pudding hamster, silver fox hamster, purple hamster, etc., which are distributed all over the world. There are seven genera and eighteen species, of which there are three genera and eight species in China. They are generally between five and 28 centimeters in size, weigh about 30 to a kilogram, are short and thick, have short tails and have a pair of growing incisors. Some species of hamsters are very close to humans and have become a favorite pet, so how do we keep hamsters?

How to raise a hamster

I. eating habits

1. Hamsters mainly feed on food seeds, like to eat nuts, also eat plant stems or leaves, and may occasionally eat bugs.

2. Hamsters have a great demand for water, so it is necessary to provide sufficient water to hamsters in time when raising hamsters.

3. Most hamsters do not hibernate and store food for the winter. Hamsters can also be fed with special rat food, with appropriate amounts of fruits and vegetables, or occasionally fed with bread worms and dried fish. The vegetables and fruits fed are vegetables, radishes, apples, strawberries, cherries, bananas, etc., while most of the seed nuts are sunflower seeds, peanuts, walnuts, pine nuts and other common nuts.

4. The plants that hamsters like to eat are dandelion, plantain and so on. If you want to supplement animal protein for hamsters, you can choose beef, muscle, protein, bugs and dried fish for pets, and so on. Hamsters also have special nutrition ointment and water, which can be taken in an appropriate amount to supplement the necessary nutrition for hamsters.

Second, the growth environment

1. Pet hamsters generally live in cages, with a chassis area of at least 0.5 square meters. The cages should be covered with soft materials such as sawdust or paper, shavings and straw to provide a hiding environment for hamsters.

2. A running wheel can be installed in the cage. the running wheel should pay attention to the size, not grid or too small diameter, otherwise it will bring harm to the hamster.

3. At the same time, hamsters should also be equipped with molars, because hamsters' incisors will continue to grow, so they must chew some hard things to grind their teeth to prevent excessive length of incisors from hindering eating and chewing. it can also ensure that the incisors are sharp and easy to bite.

4. Hamsters live in an environment that can always be ventilated and need to clean up wet bedding, pots and drinking fountains every day. Be careful when cleaning the cage and try to keep some of the old padding used by the hamster, so that the familiar smell of the hamster will make the hamster more adaptable, usually once a month.

It is worth noting that hamsters are solitary animals, and if two same-sex hamsters are raised in the same cage, they will fight or even kill because of competition for territory, so they should be raised separately.
