The Brazilian tortoise, also known as the red-eared turtle, is the most common kind of tortoise. It has strong viability and integrates ornamental, medicinal and edible functions, so many people like to keep it as a pet, so how do you keep it? How to divide the male from the female?

First, the introduction of Brazilian turtles:

1. What does a Brazilian turtle look like?

The Brazilian tortoise is slightly like a big-headed tortoise, composed of head, neck, trunk, tail and limbs, with a broad head, dark green, slightly yellow stripes, grayish black neck, green and yellow stripes, and a large body. it is composed of arched back armor and flat abdominal armour, the color is nearly emerald green or apple green, and the color spots above form a strange mass that looks very beautiful.

2. How big can the Brazilian tortoise grow?

Brazilian turtles can grow about 30cm under suitable temperature, but there are some differences among individuals due to their different body weight and body shape. For example, female turtles can weigh about 1 to 2.5 kilograms, and males can weigh 0.5 kilograms, so how big they can grow depends on what size they are.

Second, how to raise Brazilian turtles?

1. Seed selection

Brazilian turtles have strong survivability, so try to choose seedlings with sound limbs, strong shell, high vigilance and clean appearance. When selecting, try to choose more dense turtles to prevent mutual harm in the later stage. If you don't know how to choose, you can press the tortoise to see if it can swim fast. if it swims fast, it shows that it is healthy and energetic and can be selected as a seedling.

2. Pond construction

Brazilian turtles are active by nature and like to grow in ponds with clear water quality, so when building ponds, try to build a square pond, make a drain at the bottom and build an eating table to facilitate the growth of turtles. If there are no conditions, change the water frequently. And put some shade to facilitate the turtle's rest.

3. Food feeding

Brazil tortoise food is miscellaneous, whether it is rice, wheat, corn, fish, shrimp, calcium powder or aquatic insects, but mainly meat, so when feeding feed, try to ensure that there is meat every day, if the conditions are limited, you can also feed meat every two days, and try to match some vegetables to ensure adequate nutrition.

4. Daily management

Brazilian turtles like to be clean, so the water quality must be clean and ensure the flow of water every day. Generally clean the bottom of the pond once a month and fish out the sundries in the water in time to ensure the good growth of Brazilian turtles. In addition, when the turtles are very dense, they should be separated in time so that the turtles at the bottom of the pool will not be exposed to the sun.

Third, how do Brazilian tortoises divide male and female?

1. Look at ventral spot: male tortoise ventral spot is sparse, female tortoise ventral spot is dense.

2. Look at the belly nail: the belly nail of the male tortoise is long and narrow with obvious depression, while the female turtle is short and wide and flat.

3. Look at the tail: the male turtle's tail is thicker and the female tortoise's tail is thinner and shorter.

4. Weighing: the individual weight of the male tortoise is not more than 0.5 kg, and the individual weight of the female tortoise can reach 1-2 kg.

5. Look at the position and shape of the excretory hole: the male tortoise excretory hole is close to the tail end, and the hole shape is long. The excretory hole of the female tortoise is close to the ventral nail and is round in shape.

Generally speaking, Brazilian turtles can be successfully fed as long as the water quality and food feeding are well controlled. If you want to know whether the Brazilian tortoise is male or female, you can identify it according to the above five methods, such as weight, abdominal nail, abdominal spot and so on.
