The main gastrointestinal diseases in cattle breeding are esophageal infarction, forestomach relaxation, rumen dysphagia (commonly known as bloating belly), rumen accumulated food, traumatic reticulitis, valvular obstruction, gastroenteritis and pericarditis and so on. Here are eight common gastrointestinal diseases and treatments for farmed cattle!

1. Esophageal infarction

Cause: caused by sudden ingestion of oversized lumps of food in the esophagus, such as carrots, sweet potatoes, or unbroken and soft cakes

Treatment: feeding method-pushing the obstruction of the chest esophagus downward into the stomach with an esophageal probe, aeration-inserting the gastric catheter into the esophagus and then pumping air or while inserting it to achieve the purpose of pushing the obstruction, forced exercise-the cow's head is tied together with the forelimb system, and then the cow is forced to exercise for 20 minutes to promote the obstruction into the rumen with the help of neck muscle movement.

2. Relaxation of the anterior stomach

Causes: long-term feeding of coarse, hard and indigestible feed, overeating of thick, poor quality, moldy and deteriorating dregs, lack of exercise, lack of vitamins and minerals, secondary to rumen accumulated food, dysentery, traumatic reticulitis, production paralysis and so on.

Treatment: for the excretion of forestomach contents to protect the use of diarrhea antiseptic, such as sodium sulfate, alcohol, fish stone fat or soybean oil 1000 ml.

(3) Rumen qi (commonly known as bloating belly)

The main reason is that the intake of a large amount of fermentable feed by cattle leads to the production of a large amount of gas, the obstruction of belching, and the rapid excessive expansion of the rumen.

Treatment: when the disease is mild, the cow can be led to the slope that is high in front and low behind, raise the cow's head high to induce belching with hands and tongue and massage the rumen with fists, and when the disease is serious, the rumen puncture and outgassing can be carried out slowly to prevent the occurrence of cerebral anemia. cardiotonic drugs can be injected before operation, and oral antileaven drugs can be taken 0.5 hours after deflation.

IV. Rumen accumulated food

Reason: eating too much roughage, good palatability of feed mutation, stealing food, eating too much after excessive hunger, and eating too quickly.

Treatment: go on a hunger strike for 1-2 days, but do not limit drinking water. After appetite and ruminating appear, gradually feed less soft forage grass.

Traumatic reticular gastritis

The reason: eating too quickly, chewing inadequately, foreign body swallowing with the feed, sinking into the reticulum, causing damage to the wall of the reticulum.

Treatment: give priority to prevention, there is no effective treatment in medicine, you can put a magnet rod into the stomach when the calf is 6 months old, and you can absorb foreign bodies when appropriate.

VI. Valvular stomach obstruction

Reason: eat a large amount of hard coarse fiber, unclean grains, bran, frozen fodder after frost, and insufficient drinking water.

Treatment: use liquid paraffin, castor oil and concentrated saline, glucose, Annaga intravenous injection, can also be under the guidance of doctors into the valve stomach injection of magnesium sulfate, liquid paraffin, fish stone.

Transposition of the abomasum

Cause: during pregnancy, the enlarged uterus lifts the rumen from the abdominal floor and moves the true stomach forward to the lower left side of the rumen. After delivery, gravity is suddenly lifted and the diseased stomach sinks, while the true stomach cannot immediately return to its original position, resulting in the occurrence of the disease, which is related to abomasal relaxation.

Treatment: the disease should be treated by veterinarian with surgery, the drug is not very effective.

Gastroenteritis

Reason: the primary cause is caused by poor feed quality and improper feeding management, such as sudden feed changes, uneven hunger and satiety, disruption of feeding order, etc., resulting in digestive dysfunction, reduction of digestive juice and abnormal fermentation in the stomach and intestines.

Treatment: drug treatment first consider the use of antibacterial and anti-inflammatory drugs, if suspected to be infectious should be isolated, such as chloramphenicol, chlortetracycline, berberine, sulfamide, artificial salt.

The above is the introduction of eight common gastrointestinal diseases and treatments of farmed cattle by Tuliu. in the process of breeding, attention should be paid to the hygiene of the barn and timely screening of diseases in order to avoid losses.
