Red spider is also called mite, there are many kinds, take Shi leaf mite as an example: Shi leaf mite is a common kind of leaf mite, harmful to orchids and other flowers. The mouthparts fixed the back of the leaf, pierced into the leaf tissue through the leaf epidermis and spongy tissue layer, absorbed the green particles and cellular inclusions of the palisade cells, first damaged the lower leaves, and then gradually extended to the upper leaves. The damaged leaves appeared gray-white spots or white patches, and when they were serious, the leaves withered and fell off.

Morphological features: female adult mites are oval, red, 0.4 mm in length and 0.25 mm in width, with black spots on each side and white feet and jaws. Male adult mites are slightly smaller, 0.24 mm in length and 0.1 mm in width.

Occurrence regularity: from the beginning of May to the end of October, especially when the weather was continuously dry and the temperature was high from July to August, the number of insect population increased rapidly. If it rains for several days in a row, the number of insects will decrease significantly. It is mainly harmful to the back of the leaves and has the habit of spinning and netting. The eggs are often laid on both sides of the main vein on the back of the leaf and on the silk mesh.

Prevention and control method: spray 1000 times of triclofenac EC or 50% parathion EC 1500-2000 times during the damage period, and pay attention to spray fully on the back of leaves.
