Last Updated: 2024/11/06, Some orchid enthusiasts ask: what is the reason for buying orchids every spring and dying every year? We know that most of the orchids cultivated in the north are seedlings transported from the provinces in the south of the Yangtze River every spring. One of the reasons why orchid seedlings are not alive is that orchid seedlings hurt too many roots when they start in the country of origin. coupled with long-distance transportation, they are exposed to the wind and the sun and are prone to cold.

Some orchid lovers ask: orchid every spring to buy, every year to die, what is the reason? We know that orchids cultivated in the north are mostly seedlings transported from Jiangnan provinces every spring. One of the reasons why the orchid seedlings are not viable is that the roots are injured too much when they are seedlings in the place of origin, and the long-distance transportation, exposed to wind and sun, is easy to be injured by cold and heat, so that its roots, branches, flowers, etc. are damaged to varying degrees, so the survival rate is not high. Another reason is improper maintenance after planting, resulting in plant death.

In order to improve the survival rate of orchids, the following measures should be taken for the above reasons:

(1)Choose carefully when buying orchids. Choose strong roots, intact or less damaged, new and tender roots without blackening or hollow; complete leaf clusters, fresh, dark green and well-proportioned plants; bright green leaves, no black spots or withered, full buds, bracts with clear veins. 4-5 leaf bundles per tree are ideal. The roots naturally connect into large pieces, and those with many leaf bundles are easy to survive, and they are easy to sprout buds in the following year. Where the leaves are too much damage, root damage is too heavy or dry, scattered plants are not enough to take. When purchasing, pay special attention to whether the roots are frozen. Frozen epidermis was translucent water-stained shape, the growth of robust root epidermis was chalky (hungry, white earth) or pale gray.

(2) Wash with water before planting, cut off blackened and hollow roots and dead leaves, and put them in the sun to dry indoors. If the root system is damaged, it should be temporarily placed for a few days until the wound heals before planting.

(3) The pot culture should use mud pots and slightly acidic soil. After the pot, according to the above orchid four seasons cultivation method for maintenance. One point emphasized here is that, like other southern methods of orchid conservation, we must first understand the ecological conditions of the origin and strive to create environmental conditions close to the origin in order to make them thrive and flourish.
