The initial manifestations of non-pestilence in sows are: temperature drop, no appetite, extreme vulnerability, fatigue, rapid pulse beat, cough, rapid breathing, etc., and the later manifestations are dyspnea, serous or mucopurulent conjunctivitis, bloody diarrhea, vomiting and death. Sows infected with African swine fever often die about the seventh day after fever, and some die one or two days after symptoms appear.

The mortality rate of African swine fever is as high as 100%, so we must do a good job of prevention. The specific measures are as follows:

1. Be highly alert to the risk of epidemic situation, strictly prohibit the transportation of pigs from epidemic areas, and earnestly do a good job in risk prevention. In the place where swine fever occurs, the Incident Response Service mechanism must be started urgently in strict accordance with the requirements. Generally, measures such as blockade, culling, harmless treatment and disinfection shall be taken to prohibit all pigs and susceptible animals and products from being transported into or out of the blockade area.

2. The majority of farmers should actively cooperate with local animal disease prevention and control institutions to carry out epidemic disease monitoring and screening, especially in case of swine fever vaccine immunization failure, suspected symptoms or unknown cause death, etc., they should report to the local veterinary department in time.

3. Strengthen feeding management, establish and strictly implement sanitation and disinfection system, strictly control personnel, vehicles and susceptible animals entering the farm, isolate and disinfect personnel, vehicles and articles entering and leaving the farm and its production area; close the raised pigs as much as possible, and avoid contact with wild boar and soft tick with blunt margin. It is strictly prohibited to feed pigs with swill or meal waste.

As an acute swine disease with high mortality and infection rate, African swine fever causes great losses to farmers, so prevention is very important.
