Last Updated: 2024/11/05, Cows grow fast when they eat silage. The amount of silage should depend on the breed, age, use and quality of silage. In general, it can be used as the only roughage except for high-yield dairy cattle. The usual feeding amount of dairy cattle is 20-30kg, and that of draft cattle is 10-15kg.

Cattle grow fast on silage. The amount of silage, depending on the breed of cattle, age, use and quality of silage may be, in addition to high-yield dairy cattle, generally can be used as the only coarse feed. Dairy cattle are usually fed 20-30kg, service cattle 10-15kg, breeding bulls, beef cattle 5-12kg. The following is a description of the method of fermenting silage.

1. Raw material preparation

Generally, the raw materials are cut into small pieces of 2-3 cm, which is conducive to stepping, compacting and exhausting when loading the cellar, and at the same time conducive to the growth of lactic acid bacteria and accelerating the silage process.

2. Adjust water content

First, adjust the moisture content of the material to 60-70%, for later use. Moisture is appropriate or not to judge the method: grab a handful of materials, see water does not drip, landing can be scattered.

3. Additives

The protein content of silage was increased obviously when urea was added to the starter by 0.2%, and the activity of bacteria was increased and the flavor of silage was improved when salt was added to the starter by 0.1%.

4. Starter cultures

5 tons of silage materials are diluted by 1kg of such as golden bacteria silage agent with wheat bran ten times, and then the silage agent is loaded into the cellar, and the raw materials are loaded and the fermentation bacteria agent is sprinkled at the same time.

5. Cover grass and seal soil

Fill 30 cm above the edge to prevent silage sinking. Surrounding with planks, etc., 2-3 days after sinking, remove the planks, cover a layer of grass cut short to 5-10 cm, thickness of about 20 cm, and then cover the soil, tread solid, cover the thickness of 60 cm, pile into a steamed bun shape, pat the surface flat, and dig drainage ditches around the cellar.
