There are more than 4000 species of ladybugs, more than 80% of which are carnivorous. Ladybugs that prey on insects include seven-star ladybugs, tortoise ladybugs, discolored ladybugs and so on. The ladybugs that mainly prey on scale insects are black red ladybug, red lip ladybug, red ring ladybug and so on. Ladybugs that mainly prey on powdery mildew, such as white stripe ladybugs, Brahmania ladybugs and so on.

Ladybugs belong to the family Coleoptera in entomology. It is called a ladybug because it is shaped like a gourd ladle used to hold water.

The ladybug's body is very small, only the size of a soybean. It is a kind of small beetle like half a ball, with hard wings, bright colors, and many black or red markings. It is called "matchmaker" in some parts of our country, and "Sister Hua" in some parts of our country. Ladybugs have two layers of wings, and the outer layer has become a hard shell, which only plays a protective role, so it is called sheath wing. There is also a thin layer of soft wings under the sheath, which can fly.

Ladybugs are mainly beneficial bugs, but there are also a small number of pests. Common beneficial bugs: two-star ladybug, six-star ladybug, seven-star lady beetle, 12-star lady beetle, 13-star lady beetle, red lady beetle, etc., 11-star lady beetle and 28-star lady beetle are all pests. Beneficial insects, whether larvae or adults, can eat pests such as aphids, Jieke insects and ticks. These pests reproduce and grow on the stems and leaves of plants, sucking plant juice, resulting in the loss of buds and fruits, and the yield and quality of crops are seriously affected. Ladybugs find places where aphids and other pests are dense and eat aphids one after another. On average, a ladybug can eat more than a hundred aphids a day. Its larvae are also good at eating aphids, and it has a long history to use ladybugs to control pests.
