Male fish: the forehead is full, the dorsal fin is high, and each fin is relatively long. Adult male swallow fish can see strong genitals when they breed. In terms of size, males look larger and more square than females, and the angle of the upper and lower fins is wider.

Female fish: the forehead and jaw of female fish are relatively smooth, the belly of adult female fish is bigger than that of male fish, and it can be seen that the genitals are relatively round during the breeding season.

The swallow fish is the fairy fish. It is difficult to distinguish between male and female fairy fish, but they have their own habit of choosing a mate from an early age. In general, fairy fish always swim in pairs in the middle of the water, with a larger individual behind and a male with longer fins. When raising this kind of fish, if it is found that the male and female are close to each other, the anus is protruding, and other fairy fish are not allowed to approach, it is a sign of spawning and reproduction, and they should be picked up and placed in a prepared spawning box in time. The spawning box should choose a large aquarium as far as possible, the water depth should not be shallower than 40CM, the length and width should also be the lowest limit of 80CM and 40CM, and the water quality is the same as that of fish culture water, but the water temperature should be raised by 1-3 degrees, that is, 27-29 degrees. Another attachment of the egg should be prepared in the spawning box-stainless steel, ground glass or plastic, which can be placed at a 45-degree angle with the box wall in the center of the water body and at the 20CM under the water surface.

After a pair of parent fish enters the spawning box, they first clean the attachment of the eggs, and then the female will lay the first egg on it, and the male will immediately be followed by fertilization, repeating it several times until it is finished. The number of eggs laid is 200-400. After spawning, male and female parent fish draw water with pectoral fins to provide oxygen to the fertilized eggs and prevent dirt from depositing on the fertilized eggs. If there are white dead eggs and deposited dirt, the parent fish can be removed in time. In the care of parent fish, the larvae can hatch after 2 days, and they still have to stay on the attachment for about a week, during which time the parent fish will still take care of the larvae as before. If a small fish falls from the attachment, they will hold the small fish in their mouth and spit back to the same place. A week later, the small fish begins to swim in search of food. At this time, some small sifted fish and insects should be fed.

When breeding fairy fish, we should also pay attention to the fact that when taking care of their offspring, they must not be frightened, otherwise the small fish will be swallowed up. In addition, in case of parent fish fighting, the males are also temporarily fished out and raised alone, so that they will not be injured as a result of fighting.
