Misunderstanding of water moss and moss
According to the problems in the past two days, more than half mentioned the problem of water (green) moss. Some orchid friends say they can use basin noodles, while some orchid friends say they can't use basin noodles (hereinafter collectively referred to as water moss)?
I'm not a scholar. I don't know much about botany, so I'd like to talk about my own experience:
First of all, we can see that some orchid friends in Guangdong and Fujian have mixed water moss into the plant material, and the grass is raised very well, so we can conclude that water moss can be used.
The plant material can still be mixed, so can't the basin noodles be used?
In 1998, when I first came into contact with orchids, some orchid friends told me that I could not spread water moss on the basin surface. I listened to it when the temperature was high, but the bluegrass should still rot and die. In 2002, I began to try to spread water moss on the basin surface. It feels feasible and works well. Since then, the planting of new grass must be covered with water moss on the basin, and the effect is very good.
Of course, you may ask, in the past, your grass died, and you can solve it by spreading water moss. Of course, it's not just for this reason. There are many factors for bluegrass to be nourished, but according to my judgment, it is inevitable that bluegrass has been improved later, because: most of our orchid friends love grass and are not professional sellers or players. it is impossible to buy heating and humidifying devices, and most orchid friends belong to the balcony, which is the most difficult to control (today we only talk about water moss and humidity). Water moss just makes up for this shortcoming.
Personally, I think there are three points for the function of laying water moss:
First, moisturizing, we might as well do an experiment. If two pots are sprayed with water at the same time, those with water moss can stop drying for hours, while those without water moss will soon dry.
Second, protect the basin surface plant material to decline, long-term watering, especially the slightly fine plant material is easy to slide, and the effect is good after using moss (basin noodles supplemented with larger particles)
Third, some insects are not directly afraid of going into the plant material, which is harmful to bluegrass.
Conclusion: water moss can definitely be used!
The effect of water moss and moss according to the effect I use, water moss is better (moss is also available), if possible, it is better to use water moss.
It is very important that those who are suspected of coming into contact with brushed grass, that is, those suspected of coming into contact with brushed silk or other germs, do not use it, even if you give it away!
The moss freshly collected by farmers on the street stalls can be safely used.
