As we all know, the giant panda is China's "national treasure", the body color is black and white. Its lovely appearance is loved by people. So, what are the habits and morphological characteristics of giant pandas?

I. the habits of giant pandas

Giant pandas eat mainly bamboo and occasionally eat some meat. They are withdrawn by nature, often live alone in the dense bamboo bushes, and are good at climbing trees. The males and females of giant pandas usually live alone and live together only during the breeding season. The female panda is about five months pregnant and can give birth. The newborn cub weighs only about 150 grams. The baby panda begins to live on its own when it reaches the age of two.

II. Morphological characteristics of Giant Panda

Giant pandas are as fat as bears, plump and rich, with a short round head and tail, 1.2-1.8 meters long and 10-12 centimeters long. The body weight is 80-120 kg, and the maximum weight is 180 kg. The panda is slightly heavier, and the average male is slightly larger than the female. The hair color of the head and body is black and white, but black is not pure black, white is not pure white, but black is brown in black and yellow in white. The individual in Qinling area is large, the body hair is rough, and the abdominal hair is slightly brown. Minshan (especially Pingwu in Qingchuan) has smaller individuals, finer body hair and less brown abdominal hair, but the individuals in Liangshan are not too small.

The black and white appearance helps to hide in the trees of the dense forest and the snow-covered ground and is not easy to be detected by natural enemies. Relatively sharp claws and strong front and hind legs are beneficial for giant pandas to climb tall trees quickly.

Giant pandas have thick skin, up to 10 mm at their thickest point. The skin thickness of different parts of the body is also different, the back of the body is thicker than the ventral side, the external side is thicker than the internal side, the average thickness of the skin is about 5 mm, and the color is white and elastic and tough.

The vision of giant pandas is extremely underdeveloped. This is because giant pandas live in dense bamboo forests for a long time, the light is very dark, and there are many obstacles, so that their vision becomes very short-sighted. In addition, because its pupils are longitudinally split like a cat. Therefore, when night falls in the evening, they can still move.

In fact, a long time ago, the giant panda was a very common animal in China. However, due to various reasons, a large number of pandas have died, so their number has also dropped sharply. It is hoped that one day in the future, when there are enough pandas, we will set them free and let them return to nature.
