Is there a prospect for breeding bamboo rats?

As the price of bamboo rats has been rising, places with wild bamboo rats wantonly capture and sell wild bamboo rats in disregard of national laws, resulting in a sharp decline in the number of wild bamboo rats. Guangxi, Fujian, Guangdong and other places have listed bamboo rats as key protected animals. Because many mountain areas are rich in wild bamboo rat resources, some farmers are raising bamboo rats. But most of them are purchased and kept at home, which is actually the illegal sale of wild seedlings. The reproduction of wild bamboo rodents can not catch up with the speed of hunting and killing, coupled with the defects such as high mortality and slow growth of wild bamboo rodents, so domesticated domestic bamboo rats will have broader development prospects with the passage of time.

As the market gap of bamboo rat seedlings is very large, artificially domesticated bamboo rat seedlings are in short supply, and most of the farmers are not high in education and quality. Many illegal farmers deceive farmers with wild seedlings that have not been domesticated or seedlings that have been domesticated for just a few decades for immediate benefit. Wild bamboo mouse seedlings have poor adaptability to the environment and low reproduction rate, so they are easy to get sick and die, which not only brings huge economic losses to those deceived farmers, but also brings serious negative effects to the seedling market of domestic bamboo rats. Wild bamboo rodents are generally domesticated for one year before they have better reproductive ability, and the reproduction rate is low. Artificial hybrid domesticated bamboo rats can produce 10-15 young a year, while wild bamboo rats can produce about 3-6 young a year. Even if some small farmers have been domesticated for a little longer, they do not have special domestication skills and professional technical team guidance, so it is difficult to guarantee the quality of bamboo mouse seedlings. Therefore, the introduction must have a professional and technical team, have long-term breeding experience and have a certain scale of breeding farms, so as to ensure the quality of seedlings and technical services in the future.
