Pig badger is a very small mammal, which is widely distributed in northeast China. The diet of this animal is so complicated that insects and plants are within its range of hunting.

Wild pig badger belongs to the national third-class protected animals. Article 341 of the Criminal Law stipulates that whoever illegally hunts or kills precious or endangered wild animals under special state protection, or illegally buys, transports or sells precious or endangered wild animals and their products under special state protection shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than five years or criminal detention, and concurrently be sentenced to a fine; if the circumstances are serious, the offender shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than five years and not more than ten years, and concurrently be sentenced to a fine. If the circumstances are especially serious, the offender shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not less than ten years and concurrently be sentenced to a fine or confiscation of property. Whoever, in violation of hunting laws and regulations, carries out hunting in a restricted area or during a forbidden period, or uses prohibited tools or methods to destroy wildlife resources, if the circumstances are serious, shall be sentenced to fixed-term imprisonment of not more than three years, criminal detention, public surveillance or a fine.
