Square character Chunlan
Selection of Fang surname in Ningbo around 1920. The leaf posture is semi-pendulous, the leaf is thick, and the leaf tip is obtuse. The leaves are dark green and slightly glossy. The bract shell is red-purple-green. The flower has three round heads, the long feet are at an angle, and the ends of the petals are held inward. A word shoulder, petals dark green stripes. The silkworm moth is hilarious, with a white edge at the end, such as the tongue. The color is green. Square character: "Lan Hui Xiao Shi": three petals short and wide, divided nest silkworm moth, such as tongue, shoulder flat, color green, dry long. According to the record of the Concentric record of continued Lanhui, the surname of Ningbo Fang, the three valves are round and tight, the thin feet are rooted, the tongue is plump, the stem is high and thin, and the red tendons on the back of the petal are not clean. At present, the square characters are basically Yi goods, and the spread of authentic square characters is very few.
"Square character" has appeared in many orchid books since its birth. The black and white photos left in the Lan Hui Xiao Shi may be the most beautiful and correct opening recorded in the early days of the square character, and later there are similar photos of flowers in the orchids by Shen and his son and in the species and cultivation of orchids by Junjiro Ohara. The word square had already spread in the orchid world at that time. As for many other books, especially the color photos on many orchid books published in China after the Cultural Revolution, they almost without exception regard the opening photos of "Yipin" as "square characters". The result is that Lan swindler sells "Yipin" as "square character" at a high price, and Lan you cannot investigate the responsibility of the swindler even if he finds that he has been deceived, because the "square character" photo in the book is like this. I know at least two such cases. So, what kind of opening is the real "square character", and what is the difference between "Yipin" and "Yipin"? Next, around these two varieties, make an omni-directional comparison with the pictures.
Speaking of the "square character" that is now recognized in China, it should be around 1994, when Xie Yichuang, president of Yuyao Orchid Association, got it from Zhushuiting in Shaoxing and reproduced flowers many times later. The opening photo that is now recognized and circulated is the photo of Fuhua in Yuyao. Hua Jing was also introduced by teacher Yu Bojun in 2010 after seeing the photo of compound flower.
The positive photo reflects the "square character" silkworm moth holding, such as the tongue, the plump middle palace, which is very different from "Yipin". The three petals are short and wide, with fine roots, and the overall feeling of the flower pattern is full and atmospheric, which should belong to the plum petal, not the daffodil petal. From the front, the three-petal color is clean, and the top section of the flower pole turns green.
The flower shape of "Yipin" is obviously different from that of "square character". In the article "National Orchid Valve Theory" (see the first issue of Chinese Orchid'95), Wuxi Ding Yongkang emphasized that the square character "the outer three petals do not have red tendons, Yipin has red tendons". However, the author believes that both the outer three valves and the holding flap have veins, but they are by no means "red tendons", but should be "green veins". Ding also specially provided color photos of "square characters" to confirm that the square characters are daffodils, which are different from Yipin (mainly with or without "red tendons"). After careful observation and repeated analysis of the color photos provided by Ding, we can see that each of the outer three lobes has seven veins, with round heads and long feet, dug ears and small round tongue-- these features are exactly the same as "Yipin", but quite different from "square characters". According to the introduction of the word "Lan Hui Xiao Shi": "the outer three lobes are short and wide, divided into nests, silkworm moths are full of hearts, such as tongue, shoulder flat, color green, dry long." Wu Enyuan confidently listed the "square character" on the plum petal. In this regard, Shen Yuanru, Wu Yingxiang, Wu Kaiyuan and others have no objection, but also unanimously confirmed that the square character is plum petal. Even according to Mr. Ding's "plum valve theory", it is considered that the plum flap is thicker, the tongue flap is underdeveloped, and most tongue flaps are short and hard. " It is also entirely necessary to put the "square character" in the ranks of human plum petals.
