Cattle need to ruminate in order to digest and absorb food well. Farmers inevitably encounter the problem that cattle do not ruminate when raising cattle. Is there any way to stimulate rumination in cattle?

1. The reason why cattle do not ruminate

1. Ruminal food accumulation

There are many causes of disease, such as temporary or long-term intake of a large number of poor quality, hard, indigestible feed, especially high crude fiber content, semi-dry not wet vines (sweet potato vine, peanut seedling, etc.), after entering the rumen, it is entangled into a mass and retained in the rumen, and then rumen accumulation occurs; cattle are gluttonous or eat a large amount of concentrate or young grass with good palatability, which often occurs in the process of uncontrolled feeding from feed with poor palatability to feed with good palatability, or cattle are fed or eat too much concentrate after hunger; concentrate is crushed too fine (especially bran), which is not conducive to rumination and descending; After ingesting a large amount of concentrate, cattle drink excessive cold water, frozen water, feed contains more sediment, cattle are suddenly frightened after ingesting, etc. can also promote the occurrence of this disease.

This disease sees in winter, spring season more, with old age, infirm reach house feed cattle much. Cattle usually come on 5-6 hours after satiety, and there will be symptoms such as loss of appetite, cessation of rumination, empty chewing and salivation, increased belching, mild abdominal pain, mental restlessness, molars groaning, looking back at abdomen, hind limbs kicking abdomen, restlessness, delayed defecation, dry hard or thin odor feces, dry nose mirror, etc.

2. Tumour bloating

Tumour flatulence is caused by abnormal fermentation and gas production caused by feed retention in rumen. Cattle eat a large amount of young forage (especially leguminous forage) that is easy to ferment, or eat a large amount of concentrate that is difficult to digest and easy to cause flatulence (especially protein feed such as soybean meal and soybean cake), or eat frost, spoiled feed and toxic plants, etc., or belching disorder caused by digestive tract obstruction or slow rumen motility.

Sudden onset of disease soon after more than feeding, there will be rapid abdominal expansion, abdominal pain, depression, appetite, rumination completely abandoned, serious illness will also have mouth salivation, tongue barking, eyeball protrusion, unstable standing, sweating and death on the ground and other manifestations.

3. Anterior stomach retardation

There are many causes of disease, such as poor feeding, hunger and satiety of cattle, insufficient or excessive drinking water, long-term feeding of indigestible forage, fine concentrate and moldy feed, etc., resulting in reduced digestive function; long-term heavy servitude of working cattle, or feeding without rest immediately after servitude, or feeding immediately after servitude; poor physical condition of cattle, lack of nutrition, especially vitamin and mineral deficiency, can lead to decreased motility of forestomach; Other causes, rain, drinking cold water, traumatic gastritis or other digestive tract diseases and chronic wasting diseases.

Cattle will have decreased appetite after illness, rumination weakened (generally not waste), sometimes abnormal appetite, such as like to eat coarse feed does not like to eat concentrate, there are some cattle only like to eat concentrate does not like to eat coarse feed, intermittent tumor stomach distension gas, dry nose mirror, depression, eye socket depression, limb weakness, malnutrition, constipation or diarrhea alternately appear, delay a long time may die due to nutritional failure.

2. What is the method to stimulate cow rumination

1. Cattle suffering from rumen accumulation should be prohibited from feeding, but drinking water should be supplied normally. Mild symptoms of fasting after 24-48 hours can return to normal, at this time can feed a small amount of high-quality digestible green hay, and then gradually increase the amount of feeding.

Those with severe symptoms need to take magnesium sulfate, sodium sulfate, artificial salt and artificial paraffin oil for elimination and purgation. As long as rumen contents are discharged, cattle will return to normal. Edible oil should be used with caution, otherwise it will increase the burden on gastrointestinal tract of cattle. When drugs cannot be used for elimination and purgation, gastric lavage should be considered (professional veterinarian is preferred).

Cattle must strengthen feeding management after returning to normal, do not feed indigestible fodder and excessive concentrate, at the same time can feed some stomach drugs to enhance the digestive function of cattle.

2. For tumorous stomach distension, the treatment plan of rumen accumulation can be basically followed, but the problem of distension needs to be solved first.

Flatulence light person may fill the service alcohol 200 milliliters, the fish stone fat 30 grams, the warm water 500 milliliters mixes evenly one time fills the service to be used for stopping fermentation; Rumen puncture deflation or stomach tube deflation (preferably professional veterinarian) can be performed for serious flatulence. Rumen deflation means that puncture deflation needle or large needle is used to puncture the left pit of cattle to deflate slowly. It is important to pay attention to disinfection before deflation and deflation cannot be too fast. Gastric tube deflation means that tube is inserted into rumen from nostril or mouth of cattle for deflation. Deflation cannot be too fast.

3. For cattle suffering from forestomach retardation, conditioning should be given priority to, feeding some soft and digestible fodder, not drinking cold water and frozen water, doing a good job in sanitation and disinfection of housing and temperature regulation, feeding some traditional Chinese medicine for strengthening stomach and invigorating qi. Stomach lavage and rumen iron withdrawal are necessary to eliminate potential causes of forestomach retardation.

If you encounter difficult miscellaneous diseases that cannot be solved, it is best to ask a professional veterinarian.
