In addition to directly buying pig seedlings, pig breeding can also be carried out through sow breeding. However, during the pregnancy of sows, the impact caused by stillbirth is still relatively large. Then how to judge the stillbirth of sows? What is the reason for this?

How to judge sow stillbirth?

Palpation is used to examine the abdomen of sows to see if there is fetal movement, if not, it may be stillborn; in addition, during pregnancy, lochia, depression, refusal to eat, and often systemic symptoms such as elevated body temperature, shortness of breath, and rapid heartbeat can be identified as stillbirth.

What is the cause of stillbirth in sows?

The main results are as follows: 1. Sows are forcibly driven away in the third trimester of pregnancy, and mechanical stress such as shock and crowding can easily lead to stillbirth.

2. The effect of heat stress: when the temperature is more than 30 ℃, the endocrine and metabolism of sows are abnormal, and too much energy consumption leads to the inability of delivery to cause stillbirth. In addition, heat stress can easily lead to early death of sow embryos.

3. In the process of stress adaptation, it often causes fever and functional decline, and the use of hormone drugs or antibiotics is easy to cause stillbirth.

4. At high temperature, the decrease of oxytocin secretion in sows prolongs the stage of labor, at the same time, the intake is reduced, and the fetal nutrition deficiency leads to stillbirth.

5. High temperature accelerates the destruction of vitamins in feed, but pigs need more vitamins to resist heat stress, which aggravates the effect of vitamin deficiency.

6. High temperature accelerates the breathing of pigs and enhances the peripheral blood circulation, while the blood circulation of the internal reproductive system weakens, resulting in insufficient blood supply of embryos, while the metabolism of the fetus is enhanced under high temperature, which undoubtedly aggravates fetal malnutrition. Generally speaking, it is the increase in demand, and the decrease in supply is the main cause of stillbirth.

7. Pregnant sows are limited in feeding, and it is difficult to dissipate heat with high density, especially for late pregnant and parturient sows, and the body temperature rises to 39.5 ℃ after feeding. When the body temperature of late pregnant sows is maintained for a long time, the rate of stillbirth increases.

8. Hot and humid (high temperature and high humidity) is also the main cause of fetal death. The heat dissipation of normal pigs is mainly caused by conduction and convection, but these two ways of heat dissipation are limited at high temperature. Evaporation is the most effective way to dissipate heat, but the decrease of water evaporation in high and humid weather reduces the cooling effect, that is, the pig body dissipates heat better in dry heat, but it is difficult to dissipate heat in wet heat. Wet heat increases the sensitivity of pigs to heat stress, for example, dry heat 40 ℃ will not kill sows, while wet heat 35 ℃ will not kill sows.

In order to prevent the occurrence of stillbirth in sows, the management of pregnant sows should be strengthened and corresponding nutrition should be given to avoid crowding, abdominal impact and falls.
