How to treat postpartum constipation in sows

1. First, magnesium sulfate or sodium sulfate, rhubarb powder, add water to the pig.

2. Neostigmine sulfate injection 3-6 ml for intramuscular injection.

3. Pour soapy water 500-1500ml each time with catheter or pig semen infusion; allow pigs to move for 15-30 minutes after enema to prevent soapy water from flowing out when lying on the ground and soften faeces; or use liquid paraffin oil 100-200ml enema 1-2 hours after soapy water enema to lubricate the intestines and facilitate fecal excretion, 2-3 times a day.

4. Constipation is very serious. Use your hands to dig out the dry dung balls at the end of the large intestine.

5. Heavily dehydrated sows can be injected intravenously with 5% glucose, sodium chloride, vitamin C and adenosine triphosphate injection.

2. Causes of postpartum constipation in sows

1, sow drinking water is small, there will be constipation, especially in hot summer days.

2. Excessive food restriction and lack of green feed in sows during pregnancy will lead to excessive absorption of water in sows' intestines and constipation.

3. Lack of exercise before and after birth, too small amount of exercise affects the normal digestive function of sows, and then it is easy to develop constipation.

4. After the sow is pregnant, the fetus grows rapidly in its uterus, and the growing fetus will oppress the rectal wall of the sow, affecting the normal peristalsis of the rectum, so that the feces stay in the body for a long time and the water is repeatedly absorbed, resulting in constipation in the sow.

5. The protein content in the diet of sows is different from that in the second trimester. The increase of protein in the feed in the late pregnancy will stimulate the intestines and stomach of the sows, reduce the secretion capacity of gastric juice, and lead to the problem of constipation in the sows.

It is found that postpartum constipation in sows should be treated with positive and effective measures to help sows recover their health.
