Raccoons are carnivores, and their food is mainly birds. They often hunt other animals by ambush, and they also eat rats, snakes, frogs and fruits. They are third-class protected animals in the country, but at present they can be raised artificially, so how do they raise raccoons?

I. Construction of premises

Raccoons should be raised in enclosures alone or in pairs. Enclosure is generally 8 to 10 square meters, brick walls, cement floor, cement flat roof, 2 meters high, it is appropriate to use closed type. There is a door operation corridor on one side, which is 1.7 to 1.8 meters high and 0.6 meters wide, both wooden and iron. On the other side, there is an iron door (0.5 meters high and 0.5 meters wide) leading to the playground, with a pull bar that can be pushed and pulled outward, and a sink can be set up at the outer corner of the playground. Indoor food troughs, wooden box nests, perch poles, tree branches and so on should be set up for raccoons to feed, perch and move.

The playground is generally 1214 square meters, with cement floor, square iron mesh can be used around and ceiling, and the height of the building is 2 meters.

2. Feed feeding

Civet cats are carnivores, animal feeds include live rabbits, live chickens, quails, mice, mice, beef, mutton, chicken, etc., supplemented with cod liver oil, bone meal, trace elements and a small amount of green vegetables. Each animal is fed 300 grams a day, once a day, and in the evening. Live food should be fed twice a week, 300 grams to 500 grams each time.

III. Management measures

Attention should be paid to the cleaning and hygiene of enclosures and sports grounds, so that they should be disinfected once every two weeks. The feed should be fresh. Local raccoons adapt to the local environment. When raccoons from the south are raised in the north, the winter temperature should be controlled above 10 ℃ before they can safely survive the winter, while raccoons raised in the south should pay attention to heat prevention and cooling in summer, and the temperature should be controlled below 35 ℃ in summer.

IV. Reproductive techniques

The raccoon cat is sexually mature at the age of 2 to 3 years old, the gestation period is 65 to 72 days, and each baby gives birth to 1 litter. The breeding and utilization life is 6 years. Raccoons in China and South Asia can breed all the year round.

When it is found that female cats are uneasy, singing and other manifestations of estrus, male raccoons aged 3 to 5 years old should be selected to breed at the right time. In the male and female mating period, to prevent interference, you can observe quietly in the observation hole or door to keep the mating environment quiet. After conception, the female civet cat is mostly quiet and has an increased feed intake, so it should be given more high-quality animal feed. A birth box is set up in a corner of the room to facilitate the concealment and birth of female civet cats.

V. Prevention of raccoon diseases

1. At ordinary times, we should do a good job in hygiene, strengthen feeding and management, and prevent common diseases, gastroenteritis, colds and other diseases.

two。 Do a good job of deworming common parasites (such as Ascaris lumbricoides, tapeworms, etc.) in spring and autumn.

3. Prevention of infectious diseases, regular vaccination against anthrax, cat plague, tuberculosis and other vaccines to prevent the occurrence of infectious diseases.

4. Ensure that feed and drinking water are clean and fresh.

As raccoons are more ferocious, breeders must wear overalls and rubber boots to avoid being bitten and caught.
