At present, people pay close attention to the epidemic situation of classical swine fever in Africa. Food is the most important thing for the people, how can there be no delicious and nutritious meat on the table? So do you know what African classical swine fever is? What symptoms will African classical swine fever show? How can people prevent and control African classical swine fever?

I. African classical swine fever

African classical swine fever is a pig disease caused by an acute, febrile and highly contagious viral virus, which is listed as a statutory reported animal disease by the World Organization for Animal Health. It is characterized by a short course of onset, a mortality rate of 100%, fever (up to 40-42 ℃), rapid heartbeat, dyspnea, partial cough, serous or mucinous purulent secretions in the eyes and nose, skin cyanosis, and obvious bleeding in lymph nodes, kidney and gastrointestinal mucosa. The disease only infects pigs under natural conditions, and is susceptible to pigs of different ages, genders, breeds and wild boars. The first case of African classical swine fever was confirmed in China on August 3, 2018.

II. Symptoms of African classical swine fever

The incubation period of natural infection is 5-9 days, which is often shorter, while that of clinical experimental infection is 2-5 days.

1. At the onset of the disease, the pig's body temperature increased to 41 ℃ for about 4 days, died 3-6 days after infection, and decreased 48 hours before death.

2. Leukopenia in diseased pigs, especially lymphocytopenia.

3. The hairless parts of ear, nose, armpit, abdomen, perineum, tail and feet of diseased pigs show purple spots with obvious boundaries.

4. Ecchymosis, hyperemia and diffuse bleeding in larynx and epiglottis

5. The autopsy showed the symptoms of splenomegaly, black and crisp. The lymph nodes are enlarged, brittle, fragile, bleeding and shaped like a black hematoma.

III. Prevention and control of African classical swine fever

At present, there is no vaccine that can effectively prevent African classical swine fever in the world, but high temperature and disinfectant can effectively kill the virus, so the biosafety protection of farms is the key to the prevention and control of African classical swine fever.

1. Strictly control the entry of personnel, vehicles and susceptible animals into the farms, and strictly implement measures such as disinfection of personnel, vehicles and articles entering and leaving the farms and their production areas.

2. Keep pigs closed as far as possible, take isolation and protective measures to avoid contact with wild boars and soft ticks.

3. It is strictly forbidden to use hogwash or food waste to feed pigs.

4. We should actively cooperate with the local animal disease prevention and control agencies to carry out disease surveillance and investigation, especially the phenomenon of failure of classical swine fever vaccine and death of unknown causes, which should be reported to the local veterinary department in time.

The above is the brief introduction, symptoms and prevention and control measures of African classical swine fever. Do you know more about African classical swine fever? In addition, African classical swine fever is not a "zoonotic disease". It only infects pigs, not humans. Therefore, we should not be too worried and afraid.
