Symptoms of pigs eating moldy feed
Mildew feed poisoning is a toxic disease caused by animals eating moldy feed, characterized by clinical neurological symptoms. So, what are the symptoms of pigs eating moldy feed?
First, what are the symptoms of pigs eating moldy feed?
Poisoned piglets often show acute attacks with central nervous system symptoms and die within a few days. Pigs have a long course of disease, normal body temperature, initial loss of appetite, mental depression, emaciation, erythema in the mouth, ears, medial and ventral skin of limbs, late fasting, abdominal pain, dysentery, rapid weight loss, growth retardation and so on. Pregnant sows often cause miscarriage and stillbirth. Boars can have dermatitis, penis swelling and so on.
II. Prevention and control measures
1. Treatment
There is no special treatment for mildew feed poisoning. Immediately after the disease, stop feeding moldy feed, change to high-quality feed, and carry out symptomatic treatment at the same time. Acute poisoning, after enema and gastric lavage with 0.1% potassium permanganate solution, warm normal saline or 2% sodium bicarbonate solution, take salt laxatives, such as 30-50 grams of sodium sulfate, 1 liter of water, once. Intravenous injection of 5% glucose saline 300-500 ml, 40% urotropine 20 ml; at the same time subcutaneous injection of 20% sodium coffee 5-10 ml, to enhance pig disease resistance and promote toxin excretion.
2. Prevention
Anti-mildew method: the key to prevent feed from mildew and deterioration is to control moisture and temperature. Dry the grain as soon as possible and store it in a dry, low temperature and well ventilated place.
Mildew removal method: at present, there is no satisfactory method. For slightly moldy feed, soak with 1.5% sodium hydroxide solution or plant ash water, or wash it with clean water many times until the washing solution is clear and colorless, but the feed treated by this method still contains one toxic substance and should be fed with caution.
If you want to prevent pigs from eating moldy feed poisoning, you should pay attention to keeping them fresh at ordinary times. If you find that the feed is moldy, it is best not to give it to pigs.
