African classical swine fever (ASF) is an acute, hemorrhagic and severe infectious disease of pigs caused by African classical swine fever virus. It is an animal epidemic legally reported by the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE). It is classified as a kind of animal epidemic in China. Domestic pigs, wild boars (including diseased pigs, rehabilitated pigs and invisibly infected pigs) and soft ticks infected with African classical swine fever virus are the main sources of infection. So can high temperatures kill African classical swine fever virus?

Yes. African classical swine fever virus is sensitive to high temperature and can be inactivated after continuous heating for 20 minutes at 60 ℃. At present, the processing conditions of high-temperature meat products and low-temperature meat products sold in the market can inactivate the virus. When cooking fresh (frozen) pork at home, the temperature is often 90 ℃ ~ 100 ℃, and the virus is more likely to lose its activity, as long as it takes enough cooking time. People do not have to stop eating pork because of the African classical swine fever epidemic in a certain place, and it is not necessary for canteens in some areas to suspend the supply of pork products.

In addition, most fat solvents and disinfectants can also destroy it. For our daily family cooking processing, in fact, is completely more thorough than this, therefore, as long as it is reasonable cooking, complete heating, there will be no harmful factors to the body.

At the same time, experts from the Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention also said: for African classical swine fever, animal husbandry and veterinary departments at all levels have taken decisive and strict measures. Once the epidemic is monitored, they will immediately cull all live pigs in the epidemic area and carry out harmless treatment to prohibit all live pigs and their products from flowing out of the blockade area.

Therefore, pork and products purchased through formal channels are quarantined, and the public need not worry.
