Ducks are one of our common animals, which are raised in many paddy fields in the south. Ducks have a long history in China. According to the Neolithic pottery ducks collected in Shimenqiu Mountain, Wuping Rock, Fujian Province, and the jade ducks and stone ducks unearthed in Yin ruins and Fuhao Tombs in Anyang, Henan Province, it shows that domesticated ducks in China have a history of at least 3000 years. So how do animals like ducks survive the winter?

How do ducks spend the winter

There are two kinds of ducks that are domesticated in the wild. Wild ducks are generally migratory birds. Under natural conditions, wild ducks migrate south to winter in autumn. In China, they often winter in provinces or areas further south of the Yangtze River valley. At the end of spring, they pass through North China to northeast China and reach Inner Mongolia, Xinjiang and the former Soviet Union.

Domestic ducks need to be protected during the winter. The first is to strictly control the room temperature, the cold and warmth of the overwintering ducks is very important, and the temperature in the shed must be kept above 5 ℃; secondly, in the surrounding laying area of the duck house, pad 30 cm thick clean and soft forage; the third winter must appropriately increase the proportion of energy feed such as corn to ensure nutrition; fourth, once sick ducks are found, they should be isolated in time, diagnosed and treated, and the duck house should be urgently disinfected. Finally, the feeding density should be increased. The best density of overwintering ducks is 8 to 9 ducks per square meter, which is beneficial to the self-preservation of ducks.

Second, the laying method of ducks

Ducks have two egg laying peaks in a year, one is from March to May, and the other is from August to October, among which the egg laying peak in spring is more prominent. Therefore, it is very important to do well the feeding and management of egg-laying ducks in these two periods, especially in spring. When laying eggs in spring, we should first choose a good grazing site and drive the ducks to places where food is rich; secondly, we should graze carefully, preferably late grazing and early grazing, and prolong the grazing time day by day; finally, we should replenish the feed at the right time to meet the egg laying nutritional needs of female ducks and enhance their ability to keep out the cold.

The above is some relevant knowledge about ducks overwintering. It is worth explaining that wild ducks are now second-class protected animals in the country. When you see wild ducks in winter, try not to catch them so as not to break the law.
