Female birds lay 4-6 eggs per litter, one per day or at intervals of 2-3 days. After laying all the eggs, the female begins to hatch her eggs. During the incubation period, the female does not leave the nest box except diet and defecation, and the male also protects the nest. The whole incubation period is 15-18 days.

Feeding management of domestic starlings

1. Feed formula

Starling feed with egg rice is appropriate, the preparation method of egg rice is to put the rice into the pot, stir-fry until yellow but not scorched, pour into the basin, while hot to stir the raw egg liquid into the rice, stir well and cool, then break it and rub it apart. Generally add 4 eggs per kilogram, and add an appropriate amount of ants, skin worms, shredded lean meat, tender green vegetables, bananas and so on.

2. Nestling feeding

The feed of young birds is mainly wrens powder, and its formula is 150 grams of corn meal, 270 grams of minced meat, 20 grams of cooked eggs, 0.5 grams of bone meal, 50 grams of soybean meal, 20 grams of fish meal, 20 grams of silkworm pupa meal and 10 grams of vegetable paste. Mix the powder with water into a half-dry and half-wet paste and feed it with a bamboo spoon 5-8 times a day.

3. Adult bird feeding

When starling chicks feed on their own, the formula is 150 grams of mung bean or soybean powder, 70 grams of minced meat, 30 grams of cooked eggs, 10 grams of mashed green vegetables and 0.5 grams of bone meal. A lot of experience shows that it is also good to feed starlings with chicken formula feed and some animal instruments such as shelled shrimp and silkworm pupa.

4. Health management

Starlings eat a lot of Dora, and feces have a fishy smell, should be brushed once a day and dung support plate, the bottom of the cage can put some fine sand to prevent pollution of starlings' toes. The food should be fresh, especially the soft material and powder are easy to deteriorate, it is generally required to eat in 1-2 hours, the food tank should be cleaned every day, new drinking water should be replaced, and other cage supplies should be washed 3-4 times a week.

5. Water bath management

Starlings like water baths, usually once every two days, stop water baths during the feathering period and reduce water baths in winter. The high temperature in the rainy season should appropriately increase the water bath. Water bath can be carried out in a bath cage, or a shallow basin filled with water can be put into the cage to allow it to take a water bath on its own, and a spray can be used to spray water on the bird. If the weather is cooler, the birds should be exposed to the sun after a water bath to dry their feathers quickly.

6. Disease prevention and treatment

Starlings are most likely to catch colds, especially when the temperature is low in winter, so management should be strengthened in winter to prevent birds from freezing. If you catch a cold, you can first use a paper twist into the nostril to twist mucus, and then drop vegetable oil into the nostril to make the nostril unobstructed. Add long-acting sulfonamide to drinking water, add 10 tablets for every 10 milliliters of drinking water, change twice a day.

7. Daily management

Starlings should pay attention to the changes of cold and heat, prevent starlings from being cold and hot, put birds in a ventilated and cool place in summer, use a net to prevent mosquitoes in the evening, put birds in a warm place in winter and try to keep them in the sun for about an hour every day. And caged starlings have pecking characteristics, especially children are vulnerable to attack, so children should not go near the birdcage to prevent accidents.
