Pigeons are very common birds, widely raised all over the world, and are the general name of hundreds of species of birds of the family Pigeonidae. The pigeon we usually talk about is only one of the pigeons, and it is a domestic pigeon. So, how do pigeons breed?

1. Mating period

The mature pigeon, according to the purpose of the breeder, should match the male and female into a pair and lock them in a pigeon cage, so that they can have feelings and even mate and lay eggs. During this period, most pigeons can develop feelings during the mating period. Become a loving "couple", live together, produce together, and never be separated. At this stage, about 10-12 days, if the pigeon character incompatibility is found during the mating period. The pigeons should be separated in time.

2. Incubation period

This is the process in which male and female pigeons mate and lay fertilized eggs, and then take turns to hatch. This period is about 17-18 days. The nestling period is the stage when squab is born to live independently. After squab is born, male and female pigeons produce pigeon milk, take care of squab together, and feed them in turn. During this period, pigeons begin to mate again and lay another nest of eggs after 2-3 weeks of age. This stage takes 20-30 days.

3. Brood rearing period

It takes 4 months for squab to be fully developed, and some precocious varieties are only 3 months old. at this time, pigeons have all the characteristics of mature pigeons, and they will be in estrus, mate, and have the ability to reproduce. But it is not appropriate for pigeons that are just close to maturity to pair up and reproduce.

Pigeons usually have to be 6 months old and their bodies have been fully developed before they can mate and reproduce normally.
