We usually refer to the hamster family, which is the largest family of mammals, with more than 600 species. It can be divided into several different subfamilies and tribes, of which there are 3 genera and 8 species in China, commonly known as hamsters. Many people like to raise hamsters as pets, so how do hamsters survive the winter?

How do hamsters spend the winter

Hamsters are not hardy. In cold winter areas, hamsters need to keep warm to help them survive the winter. The general way is to spread more sawdust than usual, so that the hamster can be buried in the sawdust pile, or put more cotton or paper towels in the cage, so that the hamster can tear into small bars to make warm nests, and electric heating can be used to control the room temperature if conditions permit. It should be noted that hamsters do not hibernate. Wake up when they hibernate, or they will die.

After doing the above measures, we can feed according to the usual feeding habits. When feeding, we must pay attention to providing sufficient activity space for hamsters, otherwise there will be poor ventilation, resulting in a large accumulation of harmful gases and calories, resulting in mucosal irritation, pneumonia and other health problems. In addition, hamsters are also very fragile, to use hamster-sized plastic toys, and do not easily change the feed.

Second, the population status of hamsters.

Hamsters mainly feed on plant seeds, eat tender stems, leaves and fruits, and occasionally eat insects. No hibernation. Live on stored food in winter. Some species are omnivorous and can feed on vertebrates such as frogs. All kinds of animals in this family basically belong to small and medium-sized rodents. The body length is between 5cm and 28cm and the weight is between 30g and 1000g. Although hamsters are easy to breed and are rich in captivity, the wild populations of some species are limited and vulnerable to habitat destruction. Some hamsters have been listed on the Red list of Endangered species.

The above is some relevant knowledge about hamsters, in hamster breeding, we must be more patient, pay more attention to the abnormal situation of hamsters, after all, they are really too fragile.
