Last Updated: 2024/11/09, The squirrel fish has two small beards next to its mouth, which resembles a small mouse swimming in the water, hence the name squirrel. So, how do squirrels reproduce? First, how does the squirrel breed? Adult rat fish will stimulate oestrus due to the decrease of temperature in a short period of time caused by changing water.

There are two small "beards" beside the mouths of the squirrel fish, which resemble the little mice swimming in the water, hence the name "squirrel fish". So, how do squirrels reproduce?

First, how does the squirrel breed?

Adult squirrels stimulate estrus and spawn due to a short drop in temperature caused by a change of water. The most common way for squirrel fish to spawn is "T-type reproduction". During mating, the male fish will constantly chase the female fish. When the female fish agrees, the male fish will protrude the reproductive organs of the lower part of the body actively. At this time, the female fish will suck out the semen in the mouth, and then the female fish will lay the eggs in the right place and spray the semen on it.

Second, how does the squirrel fish distinguish between male and female?

1. Color: most male and female squirrel fish have no recognizable color difference, but generally show that the male fish have more gorgeous and obvious colors. When you buy, you can choose two brightly colored fish for each of the dull fish.

2. Pectoral fins: mature males always have longer and stronger fins than females, especially the pectoral fins, and the dorsal fins are slightly weaker. Some populations are so small that they are almost indistinguishable. Some other species show that males have twice as many fins as females.

3. Ventral fin: if the difference between dorsal fin and pectoral fin is very small, I will look at the ventral fin. If there is a visible difference, then males have longer, narrower and sharper ventral fins than females, while females' ventral fins are more round and fan-shaped.

Body: seen from the top, the widest point of the female's body is the ventral fin slightly forward. The widest part of the male's body is at the pectoral fin or just behind the pectoral fin. Seen from the side, the female is more rounded, while the male is thinner and streamlined.
