In response to the continuous outbreak of African classical swine fever in China, the Ministry of Agriculture and villages made it clear today that the African classical swine fever epidemic in China has been introduced from abroad, and the disease will still show a spotty distribution trend for some time to come, but there is little possibility of an outbreak in the region.

Usually, there are four main ways for the cross-border introduction of African classical swine fever: the first is the international trade and smuggling of live pigs and their products, the second is the pork and its products carried by international tourists, the third is the leftover food and kitchen on the international means of transport, and the fourth is the migration of wild boars.

After the discovery of the first case of African classical swine fever in China, we immediately carried out an epidemiological investigation. From the current epidemiological investigation, African classical swine fever may also be introduced into China through the above-mentioned types. China has frequent personnel exchanges and trade in goods with African countries with classical swine fever; pork prices are higher than those of neighboring countries, and smuggling activities continue to be carried out; the number and population density of wild boars in border areas continue to increase, and the risk of the epidemic is higher than that of other countries. At present, our department is working with relevant departments to strengthen joint traceability investigation and use molecular epidemiological methods to further identify the sources.

In terms of epidemic prevention and control, the Ministry of Agriculture and Village has just announced the "eight bans on the Prevention and Control of Classical Swine Fever in Africa" on November 21, 2018, which strictly forbids concealing, misreporting, late reporting, failing to report or hindering others from reporting animal epidemics; it is strictly forbidden to receive animal epidemic reports without acceptance or verification; third, animal epidemic investigations are not allowed to be on the scene and are not in place; failure to perform the duties of animal epidemic detection and issuing false detection reports are strictly prohibited. It is strictly forbidden to issue certificates without quarantine or to issue certificates in violation of regulations; to use or resell animal health badges in violation of regulations; to illegally dispose of animals, animal products and related articles that are infected or suspected to be infected with epidemic; and not to investigate and deal with illegal and illegal acts.
