Not exactly. There are actually many kinds of shrews, some of which are protected animals.

Shrews are also distributed from western Europe, Russia to northwest China, northeast China and the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Except for the polar regions, Oceania and some oceanic islands, all continents are distributed, but South America is only found in the north.

The water shrew is listed on the Red list of Biodiversity in China (vulnerable VU). Internationally, this is classified as "low risk / need to pay attention", and China is classified as "rare (R)". There are related reserves, such as Liudingshan Nature Reserve.

Water shrews and shrews are listed in the national animal protection list. It is known that there are two nature reserves in Dunhua City, Jilin Province, namely Yanming Lake and Liudingshan Nature Reserve, which may be protected to some extent.

Internationally, this is classified as "low risk / concern" (Stone,1995). In view of the rarity of this species in China, which is different from the endangered condition of the general standard, it is still classified as "rare" here.

What is a shrew?

It is the earliest placental animal, born in the Mesozoic Cretaceous and the smallest mammal in the world (only 4cm in length, 4cm in tail length and 1g in weight). So here we mainly refer to small shrews and fine shrews. The eyes are small, the vision is poor, the sense of hearing and smell are developed, and the outer ear shell is not obvious. Suitable for insectivorous, is a kind of small and lovely beneficial animal. Shrews have five clawed toes, long snout tips, small eyes, short ears, thin limbs and small claws, and the tail is more than half the length of the body.
