Quail is a kind of bird with small size, brown feathers with obvious straw yellow spear stripes and irregular stripes. Because quail eggs are delicious, there are also many people raising quails in captivity. In order to reduce expenses, some farmers want to make their own quail cages.

1. Self-made quail cages

Quail cages can be made of wood or plastic, usually 5-6 layers, with dung-bearing plates under every other layer. The length, width and height of the cage can be 100 cm * 60 cm * 30 cm, with 2-3 cage doors, and food troughs and sinks are installed outside the cage.

What do quails eat?

Quails are often active in plains, wastelands, streams and hills with dense weeds or bushes, and sometimes near cultivated land; they mainly eat weed seeds, legumes, grains and berries, tender leaves, buds, etc. In summer, they eat insects and larvae, small invertebrates and so on.

Are quails migratory birds?

Quails are migratory birds, often live in warm climates, can not fly high, fly for a long time, often go out at day and night, like to migrate and fly in groups at night, and migrate in clusters. Two kinds of wild quails in China breed in western Xinjiang and eastern Inner Mongolia from June to July every year, then migrate southward over the winter, and fly back to Xinjiang and Inner Mongolia to breed from March to April every year. The migration distance is about 400-1000 km.

There may be three routes for quails to move southward: directly southward from Inner Mongolia and Xinjiang to overwintering in Liaoning, along the Yellow River in Hebei and Ludu in Xizang; from Qamdo region around Qinghai-Tibet through Sichuan, Shaanxi and Henan to the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze River; from Qamdo area to the southeast coastal area through Yunnan and Guizhou.
