On February 9, the Information Office of the Ministry of Agriculture and Village announced that an outbreak of poultry H5N6 subtype highly pathogenic avian influenza occurred in Xichong County, Nanchong City, Sichuan Province, which worried many farmers. So how should farmers deal with bird flu? It is very important to do these four points well!

How to deal with avian influenza by farmers

For farmers, whenever they encounter the bird flu virus, the farms will be dealt a devastating blow, and the chickens may be wiped out, which will have a great impact. Therefore, the following measures should be taken:

1. Do a good job of vaccinating chickens.

If possible, try to vaccinate all chickens. Both broilers and laying hens have risks, and broilers will be relatively larger, because the rotation period is very short, only 40 days. Laying hens may be around 500 days, with less risk exposure, but the impact of each loss is significant.

2. Transportation is guaranteed.

It is suggested that the whole transportation process must ensure the completeness of epidemic prevention and disinfection measures, and there should be stable channels for the upstream and downstream supply of chicken seedlings and slaughtering.

3. Disinfection must be thorough and clean without leaving a corner.

Disinfect the appliances and facilities in the chicken farm, such as trays for picking up eggs, trolleys and other mobile appliances, as well as immunization supplies for direct contact with hens. Clean the floor near the chicken farm regularly and spray disinfectant. When cleaning and disinfection, strictly do not leave a dead corner, to ensure full coverage. Outsiders, including family members, are prohibited from entering the chicken farm. Every time they enter the chicken farm, they should be strictly bathed and disinfected.

In addition, regular sampling testing or disinfection of laying hens' drinking water and feed, and strict disinfection of vehicles transporting egg products and means of production, or trying to ensure that they do not enter the production area.

4. Pay attention to ventilation and keep warm in winter and spring

When hens are stimulated by cold in winter, it is easy to cause stress reaction and decrease of immunity, so it is necessary to strengthen the feeding and management of hens and improve their disease resistance. Specifically, it is necessary to do a good job of ventilation and heat preservation in the chicken coop. We should not only prevent the invasion of thieves, take warm measures, but also ensure ventilation and ventilation, and regularly disinfect the air in vents and chicken sheds, so as to reduce the occurrence of stress factors and the number of bacteria and viruses in chicken sheds.

At ordinary times, we should also do a good job in epidemic surveillance, and timely treatment of dead hens should be taken, such as deep burial, in order to reduce the occurrence or spread of the disease.

COVID-19 's epidemic situation is menacing, and bird flu outbreaks have occurred in Hunan and Sichuan one after another. I hope that all farmers will pay attention to it and do a good job in epidemic prevention, so as to minimize losses and avoid unbridled disasters.
